Antique Lantern with LED

I’ve put quite a few of these wooden puzzles/models together and I can say this one may look easy but it’s got a lot of small pieces, a lot of overlaying pieces, and moving parts which directly affect the electronics that controls light functionality. If you’re an intermediate to advanced “model citizen” and have 12-24 hrs for yourself then I highly recommend you spend it putting this one together. It’s a beautiful piece and the best part.. it’s functional! I love it when they’re functional. As you’d expect, it’s an entirely wood model. There will be pieces that will take patience getting connected together. That said, I got this one together without maiming or breaking any pieces. Just be sure to move the moving parts as soon as they are able to move so you rub the wood together and smooth it out. It’ll make the moving parts more fluid. And pay attention to the switch box direction and housing clips when mounting that. Otherwise the pieces are solid and my set came apart without any issues or breaks. There was some damage to one of the wood panels but it was outside of any of the actual model pieces. None of those were damaged fortunately. Newer model citizens should put this on their “wish list” and save it until this is their 3rd or 4th model. Maybe even 5th or 6th. Sorry, but your tender little fingertips will be done by the time you put together the first half of this awesome model. Overall, awesome piece and surprisingly challenging.

Bought this for my boyfriend. It took him hours to put together which is what I wanted. Good instructions and fun for the price. Final product lights up! Good quality, will buy more.

Of all the WoodTrick kits I have assembled so far this one is by far the best designed and produced. The wood sheets are quite thick and sturdy, so the end lantern product is very sturdy. All of the pieces fit together without any extra effort, but I would caution that most of the pieces should be cut free from the sheets using an Exacto knife or you will damage some of them. Use a lot of wax on anything you think might be a sliding or moving surface and the final lantern will move very nicely. After the poor efforts I had trying to be successful assembling the WoodTrick Mechanical Mustang this kit was pure pleasure. I have purchased a second one to assemble as a Christmas gift.

I originally got this because it looked fun to build and it was. It's very intricate with beautiful designs. One night there was a power outage and was pitch black in the house and all I had was a small flashlight. It then dawned on me that I had just built a lantern with a 360° LED light bright enough to light up my room. It's also lightweight and has a handle so it was easy to carry around the house. While it was pretty easy to put together, the rubber bands used for a non-slip grip on the base were a pain to put on. I also ended up sanding down the handle grips to the point that they were as smooth as glass since they were splintering and rough. For now it sits on my shelf as a display piece but next time there's a power outage at night it's usefulness will come back.

Had a great time putting this together. The only issues I have is that the light does not turn on and off when you turn the bottom, and the middle/lower section falls off when I pick the lantern up by the handle.

Gave this to my husband two Christmases ago, but he didn't put it together until the recent deep freeze weather spurt. He didn't have any problems putting it together and is really happy with the results. It works as well as shown in the video, with the nice soft candlelight or the brighter lantern modes being easy to cycle through.

This is my 3rd puzzle of this type and it's, without a doubt, my absolute favorite! Go slow, take your time, and you MUST pay attention to the picture directions, especially the black and red wires. You have to make sure certain pieces are turned a certain way, in order for the puzzle to fit together and always sand and wax when needed. It does come with an additional smaller board of pieces, that I can only assume are the random pieces that people frequently break and request for replacements. I did not need these extras. If a piece breaks that isn't included in the additional board, the back side of the instructions book provides the info needed to order a broken piece at no charge. It's classic, functional, and let's be honest, the orange flickering lights make it look just like old school flame lantern, is very cool. To turn it on, either twist the base to get from bright white or flickering flames OR lift it open to select either light setting. It was fun and turns into a functional - very sturdy flashlight/lantern, for when your power goes out. My one and only gripe: The picture directions on a few pages had me scratching my head a tad, but got it figured out. They are having you assemble it upside-down. The rubber bands (that you have to cut into sections) are actually the feet, so it doesn't slide around. You won't be disappointed!
