How wide is the blade?

I’ll estimate 7/8” to 1” max width. It’s in storage at the moment but I’ve used it a bunch crevacing on bedrock in AZ. Nice strength for deeper cracks.

Trying to decide between this and the 25 inch estwing geo/paleo pick for rockhounding with my kids? any advice?

Unless you need to be breaking rocks, like quarrying, the Burpee Pick is probably plenty. If you are planning to park the kids a few feet away while you do overhead swings to bust rocks, then go up to the 25-inch geo/paleo pick.

Anybody know where I can order a sheath?

I made my own, go to a craft store - leather rivets / leather. It looks very similar to the Geology hammer sheath that Estwing sells or you can get standard hammer loop ( the point and cutting head will not be covered) Good luck!!!
