30 Notes Hand Crank Music Box Movement with Copper Gear DIY Make Your Music Tool Kit (30notesMovementCopperGear)

An excellent purchase that will keep me occupied for many happy hours ahead. Fixed the action on to a wooden box having cut a sound hole in the lid. Being retired musicians my husband and I have already transcribed "Swan Lake", Legrand's "Umbrellas of Cherbourg" and started "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy"..... Oh....this was where another reviewer remarked that repeated notes need a certain distance (2 lines apart). Even Happy Birthday supplied omits the repeated note in performance despite being punched. So possibly get round this by octave jump or harmony note for the middle of 3 repeated notes. Otherwise your brain has to fill it in. We are not put off at all with this brilliant DIY music box.

Really please with this ‘programmable’ music box. Takes ages to punch all the little holes but well worth the effort. You need to fix it to a wooden base to get it to resonate. It has a very sturdy cast bottom and brass gears. i think it sounds lovely, just need to try and transcribe some music on to the paper now and get punching.

The mechanism is good with a nice sound. It resonates well on wood and comes with the crank handle and hole punch. One downside - the notes on the cards provided are completely wrong, so this is very unhelpful. The correct notes are: - F3 G3 C4 D4 E4 F4 G4 A4 A#4 B4 C5 C#5 D5 D#5 E5 F5 F#5 G5 G#5 A5 A#5 B5 C6 C#6 D6 D#6 E6 F6 G6 A6 (Thanks to another reviewer for the replacement paper roll) and I have confirmed these notes with a tuner app.

Really, I think this thing wants to be screwed to something that'll reverberate better, I think my hand may be absorbing some of the lower notes. I'm no audio expert, so discern sound from the video attached. Came with spare gears, albeit downgrade plastic ones and screws for mounting the music box to a surface.

This is awesome to have the possibility to have a custom melody musicbox. A few pieces of punch card are provided but when you run out of it, it is still possible to buy full rolls. Note : a tip I have seen on youtube is that if you punch holes in the card on the wrong locations, do not throw it away. Just use tape and stick it to the opposite side (the side without markings).

I bought this to mount inside a music box that I'd made for my child and, I have to say, the notes are vibrant and clear and I am not disappointed at all. Comes with 10 sheets of punch paper, a punch and a set of small bolts to mount the mechanism to a surface (requires the correct holes to be made in the surface). I've created a few different tunes so far and it's produced fantastic sound. The best surface for resonating, I've found so far, has been wood. When mounted inside the music box I made, it's sounded great.

This music box has excellent sound and can produce an amazing range of notes, but the mechanism just didn't work as expected. It only played smoothly one time. After a few repetitions it started to squeak, the crank wouldn't move without force, finally it was stopping every two notes ... Disappointing. I sent it back :(

Music box itself seems well made and sounds great, mine did not come with a hole punch so I messaged them and received tracking and a replacement a few days later
