Once through the filter sponge the water has to flow through two other chambers filled with biological and chemical filter media. Biological filtration takes place in the compartment containing Bioballs and a further compartment containing Ceramic Rings. Other filter media for removing ammonia and nitrite can also be placed one of the 4 removable filter compartments. Chemical purification takes place in the chamber containing a Carbon Impregnated Sponge before the water reaches the motor where it is pumped back into the aquarium via a spray bar that helps re-oxygenate the water. C. Z s. r. o. in the Czech Republic that I've just bought a new valve system from. They sell all parts for this filter. Buying was easy, and it came in just over a week. The thread on mine broke while setting up even with a very experienced, gentle hand and are now held on by metal jubilee clips! if it ever breaks or needs replacement parts expect a massive head ache!! this company has no presence in the uk at all!! I contacted resun in china and The closest source for replacement parts is in Italy!!! Infact resun themselves dont even supply or offer replacement parts!!!In heinsight i would not have purchased this filter!!!!!!!The activated carbon that comes with the filter is very very poor grade and will send your ph soaring way way way up and should be immediately replaced!!!!!!I am an aquarist of 25 years experience and i would rate this filter as 3/10...... The 3 is earned by the sheer volume of water the pump moves!!My ef-1600 is now only used as a water polisher filled with filter pads alongside my eheim wet/dry which acts as my biological filter!...... My advice is pay the extra and get a much better pump!
