I'm 5'3" & my hands barely fit the SM – it seems it was made for children or elves.** A: From my experience in 5'7" and handle on the small works fine. Which is accurate?** A: Sorry I can't confirm that the medeium is belt or cord. I saw that too when I ordered mine - didn't want a cord so I went with the large instead. BTW my dog is just around 48-50 lbs and we are much happier with the belt than the cord.
