I just remove the lid for the last few minutes and it’s perfectly golden. The best loafs I have made were in this crockpot. I won’t go back to using a traditional bread pan. The bread doesn’t stick to the sides- I just spay a little olive oil and don’t have any issues getting the bread out and it’s easy to clean.
