Diese Comic-Strips kannte ich aus diversen Zeitungen, die meine Vater seinerzeit gelesen hatte. Er hat immer davon geschwärmt. Jetzt habe ich selbst mal eine paar Phantom-Geschichten gelesen, die damals in den 70er Jahren entstanden sind. Sehr coole Story, tolle Ideen, sehr originell und immer noch aktuell. Einer der ersten Superhelden noch vor Batman und Superman.

Many great stories in this volume, including 'The Proposal'. Art is particularly dynamic, though for some reason the last story 'Guardian of the Eastern Dark' has relatively poor reproduction in parts. This is probably the last great era for the strip, as it is never quite the same after the long-awaited marriage. Must be some demand for this rather expensive book as I've had great difficulty getting a nice copy. Original order arrived with dust jacket damage (though it was one of the few that actually came protected in a cardboard box...looked like it was mishandled prior to packing). I returned/reordered it with little fuss. The reorder never arrived, and I subsequently found it was deemed 'undeliverable' before even leaving the USA. I received a refund and ordered a third time...only to receive the same damaged copy from my first order weeks later (yes, it seems damaged copies just go back in the pool). This time I was refunded again without having to return the damaged copy. Have now ordered a fourth time. I guess that shows how much I want a nice copy of this classic collection.

If you are a phantom fan you will like this material. As a kid I seldom got to read the phantom, even though I was a heavy comic book reader. The family newspaper did not have it, but when we visited out of state I caught it in other papers. It's still a good read even those it is many years old. Proving that some things change over time, but some don't.
