Super7 Toho Godzilla '84 (Four Toes) - 3.75 in Scale Reaction Figure

Having never owned a toy that looked anything like Hedorah before, I was on the fence as to whether I would regret my purchase of this toy or not. (The incredibly reasonable price tag already started to lead me away from such regret even before the toy arrived and I got to unbox it.) I couldn't have been more happily surprised when I met this toy 'in person'. I had wondered if the toy's shape would be interesting, varied and dynamic or just a kind of uniform blob (which would be bad), and now all those fears were put to rest. This toy has a magical dynamism and presence that is more than the sum of its parts. All its goopy lumps seem distinct and they project into space, especially when you raise its arms out in front of it. (And unlike with the majority of new toys, the articulated limbs move smoothly and easily.) From the side view the body is not one straight slab; a great hump projects out on its back, its goopy/shaggy tail sticks out (I didn't even know it had a tail, from the pictures) and the head hunches forward. The back of the toy employs a bit of a different metallic colour treatment from the front, adding a further point of refreshing variety. The paint job is splendid, both in colour choice and careful application, and I love the silver where the whites of the eyes would normally be. The toy was attractively packaged (as is always the case with Super 7 toys) and came out of the packaging easily, not being strapped in anywhere (again, very unusual for a toy of today). It didn't have any toxic smell. It is just the right size to fit in my hand and feels really great to hold, smooth, interesting and of substantial weight without being too heavy. Really feels miraculous to get a weird-ass, brilliant toy like this for such a small price. Thank you so much Super 7!

this is a reproduction of the Aurora Godzilla model complete with the display base. I believe the figure is separate from the base but I have not opened mine to find out. The card features lettering and imagery from the box art of the original kit from the 1960s. Would love to see more especially some based on the glow monsters kits of the 70s and this would be a long shot but the Prehistoric Scenes kits.

What's great about Super 7, and this set in particular, is that it allows someone who appreciates the art and craftsmanship of vintage sofubi to experience it personally when figures that are hundreds or thousands of dollars and out of reach for most. I am new to collecting, and my very first purchase for my first display case was this Marisan set. It made me feel like I was in touch with a great tradition and Super 7 totally gets it.

The figure is actually nice and undamaged but the packaging is totally trashed cause of poor judgement in the part of whoever did the packaging . the artwork and actual product packaging was folded in half to fit in the box ..
