I have a Deluxe in the key of C, it was the first harp I bought. The Deluxe feels a little smoother on the lips, with its triple lacquer, and the edges of the comb are rounded a little. But there's something super authentic about the 1896 that I think I'm gonna fall in love with. In my humble (beginner's) opinion, the difference in response is barely noticeable - both are super airtight. Any difference there is could be to do with the different keys, as lower keys (I think) have a slightly more sluggish response time. All in all, this is a great, great harp and while the Deluxe will give you those added improvements for £10 - £15 extra, you're going to get the real deal with the 1896. I'm sure I'll try some of the other models in the series on down the line - the Crossover in particular appeals with its bamboo comb - but I've a feeling this one is going to be my staple.
