I'm a smoker of extracts, waxes, and they can clog a filter really fast. I take anywhere from 4 to 6 huge hits every night. In spite of that, I get up to 9 months use from one of these. But, I don't just use it out of the box as it comes. I insert cotton balls into the mouthpiece opening, complete filling the space down to the filter with them. I don't pack them too tightly, as that causes a restriction when blowing. Also, I'm willing to put up with a fair amount of resistance to blowing. I change out the cotton balls about 3 or 4 times during those nine months, when it gets just plain too hard to blow through it. Now, if you're trying to hide oder, my method won't work. It's not a perfect amount of filtration. I can see a very small amount of smoke occasionally. I use it to protect my bird, a Military Macaw who sleeps on a perch at the foot of my bed, and the bedroom is fairly small, so I need to protect her. It's always worked fine for that purpose. Also, someone asked about these in your carry on luggage. There's a far better alternative to these for travel. It's the replacement filters for the, "Eco Four Twenty Personal Air Filter - Aluminum with HEPA and Carbon Filters for Clean Air Filtration. Works Naturally and Eco-Friendly."
