Very pleased with the light. You could use it as extra internal car light.
Please read update at the bottom of this review. This light is smaller than I imagined. It is 16cm high with the rotating circle fixed at highest. The metal stand cannot be removed but you can rotate the light and place the stand in a suitcase with the light flat. It won't take much room - as a light it is more useful than the torch I usually pack and if you could safely leave it in your room somewhere to catch the sun's rays during the day while you were out - great for lighting a strange bedroom without walking anyone else. Just remember where the on/off switch is. I am a bit niggled because the USB cable is only 35cm / 14" long another 15cm would have made a lot of difference. The cable has a RED coloured USB plug at one end and a little plug - same as the one on the charger for my Nokia phone - the teeny size. I think I'll take a short USB extension with the light when travelling. I bought two of the lights and found one already had some charge in it and the other didn't. The one that had charge in it I plugged into my laptop using the USB cable. A red light came on which I assume means it is charging or does it mean the light is connected to a power source. The red light is still ON some hours after I plugged the light into my laptop. The light when switched on is a bit brighter than when it arrived which I would expect - but when will I know when it is fully charged ? The leaflet/card that came with it tells you very little. The switch a white push for on and push for off rectangle is situated under the solar cells just above the little red diode light and the socket for the cable. By the way you can have the light ON when it is plugged into a USB socket thus using and charging at the same time. Being early March and no much sunlight I am not sure how much charge the other light has received or whether it will in fact light up. Will be back tomorrow to add the overnight findings to this review. UPDATE - Well it is 10.30 am. and the first light which has been ON and unconnected to electric power since 3.00 am. so that is seven and a half hours and it is though not bright as at first it is enough to see your way clear across a bedroom floor. The second light lit brightly at 3.00 am. having had only dull daylight I then put that light on USB charge and it has now has a good light. Neither little red light went out while either of the lights were "ON CHARGE" so I have no idea how much charge the lights have absorbed. By the way, whilst the unplugged second light was near my laptop screen its red light came on. So there it is - seven and a half hours and still shining. I am well pleased. Edit - May 2015 Took it on holiday with me. It was half charged. Left it on the pull-cover which covered our belongings in the back of the car as it is so light in weight and by the time we got to Butlins in Skegness it was fully charged by the sunlight. Never needed the charging cable while away. Just popped it on the apartment's windowsill while away for a top up as I needed it at night to find my way to the bathroom to save switching on the large lights. Great as an additional light to read my Kindle ereader by in bed. Very glad I bought 2 of them. Never thought about it but it would be a great light to have in dashboard cubbyhole for added light in the car - just leave it in the sunlight e ery so often.

d.light s2 solar lantern
Simply the best value self contained solar powered light on the market currently. Small, efficient, bright and improved from the previous S1 model. Comes complete with a USB charge cable, but can still be charged using a standard fine tipped Nokia mobile phone charger (these are very cheap on Amazon). Stays bright on full charge for around 4 hrs. Makes a great night light as continues less bright for longer. It would be nice to see a range of different case colours including white for the European market. * UPDATE * JAN 13th 2014 I ordered one of these very recently direct from D-light on Amazon UK on 1 Jan 2014 at ยฃ9.15 including delivery, it arrived within a week. This lower price has been the same since the S2 replaced the S1 D.light on Amazon UK last year. The current price on 13 Jan 2014 of ยฃ32.36 is extortionate! (almost 4 times the cost) and no matter how good the product DOES NOT CURRENTLY REPRESENT GOOD VALUE hence the 3 stars rather than 5. Although I assume the product remains the same quality, for the time being at least you may be advised to try elsewhere or a different product, I won't be buying any more of these until D.light start selling on Amazon UK again at the lower price (hopefully still ยฃ9.15 inc. delivery) * UPDATE * FEB 20th 2014 Very pleased to see D-light are selling the S2 direct again(on pre-order) A bit disappointed that the price is currently ยฃ11.99 (with free delivery), that's still an increase of around 30% compared with the previous ยฃ9.15 (but a lot better than the previous ยฃ32.36 from the other seller) otherwise I would have awarded 5 stars again.

Spread the solar word.
Why isn't this product more well known ? In this era of expensive energy, getting light for, effectively, nothing is a great feeling. My only previous experience of home solar lamps was of the garden variety, which tend to be very dim and only suitable for mood lighting. As the name of the product shows, this is a task light and gives strong, bright and practical illumination. I use mine in the bathroom so I can brush my teeth without having to switch the main light on, but the applications are endless. Buy one now and start saving money on bills.

Versatile and Reliable
A great little light. It withstood accidentally being left out in a storm (although I wouldn't recommend this), charged quickly, held the charge well, and can be stood on the ground or hung from a hook. I used mine every day for 4 months without any trouble and gave it away, so it is still in use,

Fabulous product. Charges well with a very long lasting and bright light. I have been using mine around the house instead of the mains light as often as I can and my last electric bill was a lot lower than I expected it to be. I will be buying another very soon and hopefully I can get the bill even lower.

A powerful long lasting light
Living off-grid, I need something simple and easy to charge so this meets requirements. If not charged, it'll still give at least two evenings of light and can be reflected off the roof of the caravan for maximum efficiency. It's also good as a handy torch when I have to pop outside to the car. Myonly complaint about this product is that the switch on the first one I purchased broke within 6 months of purchase. I was going to send it back for a replacement but my partner insisting on trying to fix it. It's a totally non recyclable product and cannot be fixed. However it's not clear when it's fully charged and the charge hole is difficult to find in dull light as it is black. A useful addition in any updated design would be to have the charge hole in white so that it is easier for those like me - the visually challenged - to find where to stick the cable! The instructions, like most things nowadays are in small print and not that clear. Maybe I didn't read them enough. The D Light is easy to work out anyway without instructions. It always charges in sunlight or from the mains (genny) but the red light never seems to go off or change colour. So, I never know if it is fully charged and even when charged initially overnight in a house, the red light was still illuminated - maybe I've missed something or still haven't reached maximum charge. It works and for the money spent, seems to be a good investment, especially for the offgridder or camper.

Love, Love, Love This Little Solar Light!
UPDATED REVIEW: It's been over THREE YEARS since I bought this solar light and I still use it all the time. One of the BEST investments I've ever made. I no longer live on the sailboat, but have used it for all kinds of lighting. Read the rest of my review for more info. Although it's small in size, this little solar light puts off a very bright light, and charges very easily. I can run mine all night, then put it in the window to charge during the day. I live on a sailboat and use mostly solar (which I bought from Amazon), and the d.light S2 LED Task Light is one of the best solar powered items I've purchased. It looks just like the photo, with the solar sensor on one side and the light on the other. You can either use the stand to sit it somewhere or to hang it (I do both, moving the stand back and forth until it's just where I want it), or you can even carry it like a flashlight. I use mine nightly, and it's now second nature to grab up the solar lights in the morning and hang them in the window or put them outside. Some solar powered items won't charge from inside (or not very well) or have to have a very sunny day to fully charge. This light will charge (at least in my case) even in the worst of weather. I am truly amazed with the product. All of the d.light products I've bought have been above and beyond expectations. They have all already paid for themselves many times over. I only have one complaint about one of them (it's supposed to be able to charge items from the light, but it hasn't worked on mine, but that light is almost like a spotlight, so it's a minor complaint...And remember that that is another product, not this one.) If the company changed anything about the d.light S2 LED Task Light, I would like it to be to make the ON/OFF button be positioned in an easier to reach location. It's sometimes quite difficult to turn the light on or off because of where the button is. Especially for females with longer fingernails, the button is in an awkward spot. This still was not enough of an issue to cause me to drop it to four stars, so that should say something about how much I love this product. This would be good for anyone, but especially a great idea for those who want to save energy, money, or the earth. They are inexpensive enough to buy several to keep on hand for emergencies, too. Keep one in the rear window of your car and it's always ready to go. Keep one in your trunk for when you're on trips and will be gone a few days. Keep one in your boat, RV, with your camping equipment, in the attic (where the sun shines in), on a couple of window sills in your house, give as gifts, etc... Just remember that if you store the light without some way to obtain sunlight, you're going to have to charge it before use. It may be able to hold a charge for awhile, but I would keep in mind that it needs charging. It's just great to have in emergencies, and CAN be charged IF you already have it.

d.light is the best!
I love this lantern. d.light lanterns have worked the best of all the solar lanterns I have. Sturdy, keep charge well, keep on working, and put out a good light. My favorite is the S30 though, it doesn't seem available. I was going to give them for christmas presents since the electrical power grid goes out sometime. S3 is wonderful, but the S30 is great for carrying around and keeping by bedside.
