ASUS RT-AX88U Pro (AX6000) Dual Band WiFi 6 Extendable Gaming Router, Dual 2.5G Ports, ASUS Rangeboost Plus, Port Forwarding, Subscription-free Network Security, Instant Guard, VPN, AiMesh Compatible

Replaced an RT-3200 AC router which although was unsupported now - still worked well. Waited a couple of weeks before review as wanted a balanced study. Connected to a ONT provided by ISP and added to existing AiMesh. This router is a chunky router which has been working fine since installation. Pros: Easy to setup - has a wizard. Links to existing AiMesh system - but will suggest a drop in WPA level as if like me (you have a WPA2) it will have to drop for compatibility. Uses the same ASUS App (on mobile devices) to manage as previous ASUS router. Web interface is best and has more options available. Plenty of VPN options - OpenVPN, Wireshark etc. Also has propriety VPN called "Instant guard" but haven't had time to test as yet. Has VLAN options inbuilt for iOT isolation etc. Plenty to play with. Wifi range is pretty good, not massively better than previous but does seem to have more wifi options. Cons: Can still disconnect all clients when making some (non client related) changes - which is annoying but has occurred on all ASUS routers to date. One Amazon Kindle (2.4ghz) had issues connecting when AX was enabled on this router, unsure why but AX was disabled - as not currently using the 160hz stuff just yet anyway. I hoping a Firmware will fix this. Conclusion: A solid router (tested for over two weeks now) which is very similar to my old one however has a lot more grunt (4 core etc.) which has plenty of scope for network growth.

The router replaced my ISP router. And it is significantly better. It really easy to setup. Coverage is better, and consistently delivers 99% of my expected internet download and upload bandwidth/speed (max. utilisation). ASUS Merlin firmware is great. UI is simple to use. The intermediate to advanced level network configurability options are great! You can easily harden the router thanks to AiProtection. This is an excellent router.

Excellent performance. Purchased as a replacement for my older AC68U. Was hoping the wifi range on both 2.4 and 5, but at least 2.4 would be significantly increased to cover the whole house. I have to position the router behind a tv in a far corner of a 1930s semi detached house with an extension. Alas the range did not improve enough for what i wanted. If this router was positioned right in the middle of the property, then I suspect it would probably work. Anyway, I then added the AC68U as a mesh node and positioned it almost the other side of the property (thinking the signal wouldnt be strong enough). How wrong I was. However these routers connect for AI Mesh is tremendous. Now have really strong signal all throughout the house and gardens on 5Ghz.

I've only had the RT-AX88U Pro for 2 days. It's working well and has improved my wifi speeds around the house. I'm on fibre broadband getting 940 Mbps up & down at the router. Wifi speed with the ISP supplied router (Linksys SPNMX56 supplied by Toob) at furthest point from router was 200 Mbps up & down. With the AX88U it's now 670 Mbps down, 550 Mbps up. Ethernet speed around the house was, and still is, 940Mbps. The main reason I'm posting this review so soon is just to pass on a couple of bits of information: 1) For Toob customers : I simply connected the ethernet cable from the Toob ONT to the ASUS Wan port and (much to my relief) the fibre internet connection just worked fine - no need for any ISP settings. 2) For Apple Mac users: Don't use Safari to manage the ASUS router. It will apply changes but not update to show the changes on the browser web interface, which caused me some confusion and wasted time. Use Goole Chrome instead. Changes are then properly shown on the router's web page. When I've used the router for a month or two, I'll update my review if anything changes.

Very good wi-fi6 router, i had no issue installing and setting it up at all, intuitive menu. Like asus products. Good coverage in my 2 storey 2 bed house, with another older wi-fi5 router to the garage in mesh works very good too.

I bought this to replace my previous Asus Router which had served me well for over 10 years. This router has so many features and functions that are really useful in managing my home network. I can set up a separate subnet for my kids to use and which I have complete control over. For example, I can decide when the internet will be available to them at any time of the day or day of the week. I also have full control over their individual devices and can set up schedules to allow them to access the network (or kick them off it) when I want to. You can also set up a separate subnet for IoT devices and more. There is an ASUS phone app from which you can also control / set up the router. The DDNS function is also really useful however if you already have an ASUS DNS account, you need to make sure you deactivate it on your old router before installing this one otherwise you will not be able to access it. A very powerful bit of kit that all parents of teenage kids should have!!

Bought the ASUS RT-AX88U Pro (AX6000) as a replacement for an older Asus Router. Easy to setup and connect up to the VM Hub 3. Within first month noticed WIFI dropping and reset the the router. Months 3 and 4 same thing, into month 7 and now the WAN light stays red (no internet) with a slight burning smell. Factory resets, firmware up grades, nothing worked. Plugged in the old 7 year router and works. Really , disappointed with the ASUS RT-AX88U Pro (AX6000) , costs over £300 ! Barely a year using it and it is has had more more issues than I have had in 7 years on the old router !

this has helped my signal throughout my house intstalled merlin firmware on it and its been solid
