Not really hot swap as you need to use windows disk manager every time you swap out drives after safely remove hardware.

I have copied several disks with no problems. As I am in my late seventies, the labelling is difficult to read. The source disk is disk 2 at rear. Target is disk 1 at front. The labelling for this is very small print on front panel. I have placed sticky labels to avoid error. Otherwise no problems.

Once set up and did practice run it worked well. Much quicker than via USB or network system. Good investment for the future. Easy to set up but you do need to read the full instructions.

I bought this to upgrade my PC and media server’s SSD’s to a larger disk, without having to fuss around installing fresh OS’ and transferring all my files over. The transfer was simple. I input my SSD in the master slot and the target disk being the larger SSD I was upgrading to. The process took 10 minutes. It was just a case of installing my new SSD into my machine and creating a partition for the unused space. Great product, I hope I see many year’s out of it!

The data transfer rate was much lower than it should have been on USB3.0, around 70MB/s (as recorded using Blackmagic Disc Speed test) instead of the 150MB/s I get with other USB3 external drives. StarTech technical support was very good in going through the problem and we tried different computers, leads and drives. The low data rate persisted even on a USB-C connection. They concluded it was faulty and suggested a replacement. So 5 stars for customers service but 1 for a malfunctioning device. I did not get as far as trying the duplication function. The construction the device is a bit "plasticky" and does not feel as sturdy as my previous StarTech USB2 external caddy. SDOCK2U313R USB3.1 dock

I've used several cheaper Chinese enclosures and docking stations and they all fail, sometimes wiping out partition and master file tables. Used the Startech twice and it has been flawless. Pay a bit more for reliability! The extended support is nice too.
