This is a small hard non-slip block that has a rounded edge for applying pressure to the sub occipital bone which can often hold alot of tension. I don't notice anything special about the material or the shape and because it's so hard, it can be painful so I have to lie on it very gingerly. It's more stable than a tennis ball but more painful too. Because the edges are quite acute and not very rounded, it's good for getting into tight places like along shoulder blades, but because it's small and hard, I have to support my weight not to apply too much pressure. Can't say it's something I would order again. Hope that helps!

I am not certain if the one I use at Pilates class is more expensive, I think it likely but that one is far more pliable than this one which while not rock solid gives very little, that aside it is what it says it is

For anyone suffering from neck, shoulder or back pain, this tool helps to relieve the tension and pain that has built up within the body. Highly recommend giving it a go as it seems to be making a difference for my neck pain

I like that I can use it both laying down and standing against a wall - I don't always have a good place to lay down when a tension headache is building. This tool really helps provide release when my neck and shoulder muscles begin to tense up - using this tool at the first sign of trouble helps minimize or even ward off a tension headache.
