Good choice
This is my first SatNav and I think I made a good choice. The screen is a decent size and is easy to follow. I loaded Mydrive on the computer and set up was fairly easy. The actual controls, i.e. putting in an address, are not totally intuitive and I struggled for a bit, but have got the hang of that now. Overall I am happy with this TomTom and feel it was a good choice for me.

Good little SatNav
I've owned this for about a month or so now and have found no major faults. It updated without issue when I set it up and it is very easy to use. The local maps aren't necessarily up-to-date and changes that were made 6+ months ago to local roads (speeds/directions) have not yet been updated on the maps which is a little annoying. The signal cuts out occasionally and when it does, the device tries to convince you that you are in a field somewhere. However, for the most part I have found the device to be fairly accurate. I've used it for a couple of long journeys and it has not let me down. Occasionally, more specifically when on a road with multiple junctions, it is not clear which exit you need to take but perhaps this is just a case of getting used to the device. All in all, I'm happy with my purchase.

I HATE DRIVING
covering postcodes pe,ln,de,ng,nn,le and cb weekly i cover some miles and this is a great upgrade from my tomtom 1. Linked to the phone it gives all road closures and alters your journey to suit which is great as it seems every area has roads closed daily which was getting frustrating. first day it diverted me ways i never knew and i got there in good time. its nice to have up to date visuals on route .

Good lightning deal!
Good value at the lightning deal price in December 2016. Bought to replace an ageing Medion / Navteq device. Came with free lifetime Europe maps and (if you are quick enough) 1 year free speed camera updates. In use the device is a big improvement on my previous, but needs Blue-Tooth connection to your phones internet access to make full use of the traffic information ability. Not sure of the value of this in Europe as data can be very expensive. However very satisfied with the functionality I am using.

You really will need to study the full 140+pp manual to get the best out of this device!
Bought as replacement for old XL which wouldn't work properly after the recent rebooting of the clock. TomTom didn't tell us that after this it would also lose its GPS feed frequently & randomly, especially where roads in town centres were concerned - becoming in my view downright dangerous! And their offer for a replacement was only for a much more expensive model. Amazon's offer for the VIA52 was much better value. Map accuracy disappointing. My road (built 2003) has had a name given it which is totally fictional and never existed. It persists in thinking all SY24 postcodes are in Borth - they aren't, I am in Talybont - 6 miles away!! The speed limits are quite often not up to date, either. The pre-loaded French map was also not up-to-date - new speed limits not changed - so I tried the update as recommended. As others have said, it was ludicrously slow to load even with 16Mb broadband so I gave up until I actually need it. Before realising that there WAS a manual, I couldn't get anything to work properly, despite years of (satisfied) experience with the older model; there seems very little that hasn't changed. But now I've got the hang of it, it works as well as the old one did. Still haven't got the phone-linked things to go, though. Miss not having indication of remaining driving time displayed - need mental arithmetic instead! Larger screen is nice, and seems brighter. Nice to be able to keep the old 'voice' (Kathy) as well. On-off switch behind instead of on top is not an improvement, and the charging cable is too short for best positioning- the old one was a bit longer. I like to check the route details out on the map before setting off, and that is considerably more difficult than it was. And like the old model, there is a tendency to use very minor roads which are often definitely NOT quicker. On the credit side, however, the projected timings are usually astonishingly accurate - as they were before. But overall, I'm satisfied with the VIA52 at about 2/3rds the price of its predecessor; I wouldn't want to drive to any new destination without it...
