I had a large number of old apple logs - iron hard and full of grain twists and knots - which I he deemed 'unsplittable' using an axe. The splitter dealt with these with ease, and the Duoblade makes the process very quick. An awesome bit of kit, and I wish I had bought one yards ago... One minor criticism - the wheels on the stand are really too small and narrow for something of this weight, so they sink into soft ground making it hard to move the splitter about on anything other than a smooth hard surface. Overall though, an excellent tool. Review: Excellent and simple to use - This piece of kit makes cutting your logs effortless. Very sturdy. Some folks have suggested its hard to put together. It is heavy and a bit of a challenge to get the bolts lined up. It is NOT a one person job to stand mount at least 2, and 3 would be better. You only have to do it once. changing the oil is a 2 person job as well as one has to balance the device as the other undos the drains. A slightly better design would have a balancing foot at the drain end. I would not recommend you support it on the operating lever cover as it is not strong enough to do that so you have to pick the heavy end up and doing a balancing on the two moving wheels. I was very pleased with it. Split the hardest logs. The only problem I had was the motor shaft kept moving and this caused the hydraulic pump to disengage. I complained that it was faulty but they wouldn't replace FOC. So I had at my cost to replace the unit. Since then it has worked perfectly. Hopefully I was just the unlucky one with this motor problem. Note if splitting hard wood stand well clear of the front of machine as the split pieces fly like a rocket and protect anything valuable in front as well! **Q: Does this come complete with the guard as shown in the pictures?** A: It comes as shown in the picture. I don't understand where any guard comes into it. You stand by the controls having to use both hands to operate it. Do not allow anybody to stand it front of machine!. Very Happy ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Boys toy, great machine, spoilt only by the terrible instructions. *by J***J on 1 November 2017* If you are considering buying a log splitter then I guess you have a lot of wood to split. If that is the case you don’t want to be bent down low for ages using a log splitter otherwise you will have an aching back very quickly. That being the case my first advice is that you MUST buy the stand with this log splitter. The stand that the manufacturer supplies is clearly taylor made for this log splitter and once fitted it is great. It is a perfect fit, is sturdy and there’s a nice touch in that it has fitted wheels making it easy to move the splitter about (it is extremely heavy so the wheels make life so much easier manoeuvring it.). Sadly there is a problem with regards to the stand, the installation instructions are terrible. I ended up putting the instructions to one side and working it out by trail and error. Not ideal for a product which costs so much and such a School boy error on the part of the manufacturer. Once the stand was fitted (it took me about an hour to get to that stage) I tried to follow the splitter operating instructions. Again they are terrible. The wording is very ambiguous and I ended up resorting to a third party review on YouTube to figure out when the bleed screw needed to be open and when it needed to be closed. All the instructions needed to say was “Always have the bleed screw open while operating the machine. Always close the bleed screw when not is use.” Once I had deciphered the splitter operating instructions (with a lot of help from YouTube!) everything was great. I put on my goggles and spent a while in my garden happily splitting wood that has sat in my log store for three years with me avoiding splitting it because it was just too tough for my axe. Soon I had split the equvilant of at least two builders bags of logs. This splitter (the 7 ton Forest Master model) literally ate its way through a variety of logs including some really thick pieces of extremely tough Hawthorne. The splitter was easy to use and I can’t fault the machine. If the manufacturers were to re-write the instructions for stand installation and the user instructions (which would be a small job) then I would say this is a brilliant buy, if they did that I would give it 5 out of 5 stars, until then it only gets 4. Top tips. The bleed screw should always be open during operation. The bleed screw should be closed any time you are not operating the machine. Write a reminder to open the bleed screw on the body of the machine with a Sharpie so it’s the first thing you see when get the machine out for use. Buy the stand. Allow yourself time to work out how the stand fits, because the manufacturers instructions are very poor. A bit of thinking and trial and error is far more use than the provided instructions.
