Funny, And Cat People Can Identify
I recently got a sort-of newsletter from some faraway friends and mostly they wrote about, and included photos of, their cats. I had no idea they were cat people. So I thought of this book, a copy of which I keep in a magazine rack in my guest bathroom. At the risk of TMI, I'll go in there and sometimes I'm in there for 15 minutes or more. Never Laugh at Your Cat
Cats work very hard to appear serious at all times. The New Yorker cartoonists are on to their deception. If you love cats, this is for you.

Cat Compendium of Cackles.
I love cats and I love "The New Yorker". So, why only four stars. That is for people who do not necessarily love cats and are not overly fond of "The New Yorker". The object of the magazine is to get at the sometimes hidden truth of situations. That's exciting, and useful in an investigative journalism piece or an in depth interview. But it does not necessarily work with non-cat people, who never look into the eyes of a cat and wonder what they are thinking. Cat people will rarely, if ever, be surprised by the impressions of our felines and ourselves in these cartoons, but we will delight in seeing ourselves, and what we imagine about our cats, done in clever drawings and captions. For example, one of the more enigmatic aspects of cats is what they do with their tails. Unlike dogs, they do not wag in delight when their masters return home, or when they are happy for some other reason. A cat is far more expressive, in more different situations, but what they really mean is a total mystery. That is because cats' tails are far more flexible, and they can control its motions down virtually to its tip. I confess, some impressions of cats are a bit stretched. I have six cats, and not one of them has a finicky bone in its body when it comes to dinner time. i feed them upwards of 10 different flavors, varying from day to day, and they eat all of them with gusto. The mix, of many different drawing styles and tastes in humor is what makes this book. If it were the same captions with a single artist, it would not be half as entertaining. Great thing about it is that you can hand it around to fellow cat lovers, and they can appreciate it all in 30 minutes or less.

New Yorker - what more to say?
The best cartoons around, sophisticated, clever, and enduring.

Love it. I need to resubscribe to the magazine
Love it. I need to resubscribe to the magazine, but it's so hard because they just keep coming week after week and I'm the kind of person who wants to finish every article and hates to throw my favorites away. It's a losing battle.

Book is great but seller ruined the cover with a sticker
I love this book!!!! I bought it for my coffee table and it’s perfect. I am disappointed in the fact that whoever sent this attached a thank you sticker to the spine of the book. It was halfway on so when I CAREFULLY and gently peeled the rest off, the covering came off with it. A shame to do this to a 1998 book that should be cared for properly.

Cat lover
While in the vet office recently I came across their New Yorker book of cat cartoons and it brought a lot of laughter and being the cat lover that I am I could identify with a lot of the cartoons and knew that I wanted to purchase this book. It is quite comical.

I adopted a rescue cat. So I guess I'm a crazy cat guy. I have always enjoyed The New Yorker, especially their cartoons. When I saw on amazon that there were two volumes of New Yorker Cat Cartoons I leapt at the chance to have many a good chuckle. But was I in for a surprise. I received the books in a plastic envelope. I pulled out one book - good size, hardcover. I thought the confirmation email said I was going to receive TWO books. I turned the bag over and out dropped what I wouldn't really call "a book". I have a postage stamp bigger that that book. Even kid's board books are bigger. When I looked at both books on line they looked the same size. The small one is so small that my old eyes need a magnifying glass to read the caption under the drawing. What's worse is the small book cost $20.99 - and its just cardboard and paper. The regular sized hard cover was $35.99. After my initial reaction I had to laugh. I guess I'll have to read the fine print on the actual size of any books I purchase in the future.

I had the original book of cat cartoons, so naturally had to buy this one. It does not disappoint. Any cat lover will recognise, possibly with a wince, some of the situations, and there are some that I'm tempted to have copied and framed!
