Will not fit all banjos. - I purchased this tuner on 15th April 2026 and it cost £20.40p I have found the tuner to be unobtrusive on my 5 string banjo. The tuner is on a swivel, so it can be moved into a position you prefer when tuning and folded down out of the way when you want to play. I noted that some reviewers state that it has a problem recognising the g on the 5th string. Looking at this, I discovered that if you pull the tuner all the way up (see last photo) it has more surface area and therefore will easily recognise the 5th string. When fitting, I did try to slide it under two of the J hooks brackets (under one bracket and then backwards under another) but I was unsure whether the plastic brace that goes under the hooks would break, so I did loosen one hook that allowed more room to slide the 2nd half of the plastic brace/support of the tuner under, and then tightened the hook over it. Look carefully at the measurement of the part that goes under the hooks. Reason being that it fits very well on my Tanglewood Cove Creek 5 string, but whether it will fit on your banjo will depend on the spacing of your J hook brackets. I actually would have bought a 2nd tuner to attach to my Deering Goodtime 5 string, but the spacing of the hook brackets is too far apart for the tuner to be attached. The length of the fixing bracket on the tuner is about 95mm and the centre of the bracket has a notch to rest on a hook bracket, so if your banjo hook brackets are spaced wider that 45mm it will not fit. If you buy it and it doesn’t fit, at least with desertcart you can easily return it for a refund. Nothing wrong with tuner. But no matter how you adjust it, it will never be on an angle where you can view it. It swivels and tilts but never where you can look at it from a playing position. I wrote Planet Waves (no reply) with a few tweaks of the design it could be great. But unless you can tune your banjo while it’s facing the floor it’s pretty clumsy. **Q: How can you tell when it is in tune from the display I have been putting one blue bar on each side of the middle note is this correct?** A: Yes. Bars to the left, flat. Bars to the right, sharp. Note bracketed (as you are doing) means you’re there. **Q: Can this be laid over the top of a Lyre Harp, maybe held down with thin Velcro straps, to tune across the scales?** A: My best guess is it could work in that application. Because of the way these are designed to simply slide under the brackets on a banjo it is only very lightly in contact with the instrument but I find it works well. What I don't know is the range of notes on a Lyre Harp. Some of these sorts of tuners have limited sensitivity ranges. This one works great on my banjos in their various common tunings but I don't know how well it might work on an instrument with a much wider range of frequencies. You might want to ask the manufacturer about that. **Q: Can this tuner be used quietly while actors are doing dialogue? I'm in a musical and must correct tuning between songs without the audience hearing it** A: It can in some settings. If your volume is turned off by the sound tech and you are far enough away from actors with a mic open. This tuner operates on vibrations and is placed between the rods on your instruments rim. So you don’t need to pluck loudly for it to work.
