However when we tried to replace the ones already in the shades, these LED bulbs would not go into the socket far enough and, if left in, would have fallen out and maybe caused a fire. The pins at the bottom of the LED ones are straight and the halogen ones are 'bent' into a circle. The base where the straight pins are, 'stick out' a little and it was this which was stopping the bulb going far enough in the socket. The halogen bases are like squashed in. So in effect they are nothing like the traditional halogen bulb.
