Whole house synched audio on a budget
I have 5 of these flashed with squeezebox in my home. When synched together via LMS, audio is synched in real tone between all speakers these are attached to, providing high quality whole-house audio for a fraction of the cost of commercial systems. Very happy with these, especially with 3D printed cases available online from the usual places.

Good Dev Board, with audio CODEC
Great board, but note that the two MICs and the Line-In is tied together. A known issue, that would have been good to know.

Had some issues but figured them out finally
This board is pretty unique. No support really and information is scattered around everywhere. I can give a tip though. I was able to use esp-adf with a github repository I found. Search for esp-adf-component-ai-thinker-esp32-a1s on github and you'll be able to go forward with the examples.

Need more documentation
Used this as the base for a Bluetooth speaker project. Poor documentation and no support with this. However. Once it works. It works great, Bluetooth connection sounds decent. No feed back. And plenty of expandability.

No software support
Beware: This AiThinker ESP-32 board has no software support. No documented pin routing to the HAL and Codec, no documented Codec, and no working software support library. This board will not work with the ESP-ADF and ESP-IDF libraries out of the box.

Saved me a lot of money from having a board designed
Iโm using it with Claude AI and have had pretty good success so far.

Fits and works perfectly
It is well designed and works very well. You might need to buy some GPIO bus extenders, though, if you want to put a hat over it.

Works for me
The documentation one finds is somewhat scarce. The idea to couple some of the few externally available pins with LEDs and others with on board buttons is most disturbing. One can only use most pins by cutting lines in the board. But that aside it works perfectly fine for me for a couple of months now. I play mp3 from the SD card and web streams to speaker and (or) headphones. I sort of connected an RFID reader to start playing the files/folders from SD... BUT due to the lack of pins I put a microbit between this board and the RFID reader. So: if you are prepared to go through a considerable pile of hazzle and disappointment you get a very cool device at a fair price.
