The original bumpers had rotted away from age and weathering. When removing them it's best to use a small amount of lubricant so they dont break off while turning and leave a portion of the bumper inside the hood, it's a pain to get it back out, don't ask me how I know. When reinstalling the new bumpers, put a very thin film of dielectric grease or similar on the threaded part of the rubber to allow it to turn in smoothly.
