'Will do for grammar what Eats Shoots and Leaves did for punctuation' - The Times _______________________ A runaway hit and Sunday Times bestseller in 2008, My Grammar and I has continued to grow in popularity, becoming the go-to guide for grammar. My Grammar and I offers amusing examples of awful grammar, while steering you in the direction of grammatical greatness. Taking you on a tour of the English language through the minefield of rules and conditions that can catch you out, from dangling modifiers to split infinitives, it highlights the common pitfalls that every English language user faces on a day to day basis. Refreshing everything you should have learnt at school and more, My Grammar and I is informative yet entertaining: a must-have reference guide for any English language enthusiast. Review: Finally! A superb book on grammar. - One of, if not, the best books out there on grammar. It covers a wealth of information and delivers it in an enjoyable and easy-going way. There are too many english, grammar and punctuation books out there that just have you drooling over your book with boredom within a few chapters, which is why this book has done so well. It does the exact opposite and makes grammar, dare I say, enjoyable to learn. If you're looking for a book to help brush up on grammar, look no further. Just, please, don't buy it on Kindle. It just isn't that kind of book, and, for some reason or another, makes it less enjoyable to read. Review: A good addition to the 'used to know that series' - Witty and always ready with a practical example, with just a sprinkling of history of the terminology. My Grammar and I makes a good addition to the UTKT series, and makes a good supplement to I Used to Know That: English. I found this book very informative and a wholesome general read. As a state school student of the 80's/90's I grew up in the time when the structured grammar drill exercises of old had pretty much died out; teaching of the subject was incorporated into more general lessons of English lit/lang composition. In my mature years I've looked to address the shortfall of my education in this fascinating yet overlooked subject and MGAI provides a useful supplement to learning. Like others, my criticism lies only in the lack of instantly accessible learning on the subject matter. There are no exercises to test your knowledge. This is no concise guide or learning manual, but more of a lively introductory overview which leaves you to explore further inquiry on the subject.

Dangling participles no more.
Very useful. In another life I was head of English, but a decade in and illness has affected my brain /memory as well as my body. Oh, and getting older. Flippetyflip. This is a brilliant little book especially when combined with its companion workbook. This is full of grammatical rules and their exceptions that you used to know. So if you want to avoid dangling your participles in public, this is for you. I hope you find this review helpful, thanks for reading.

A grammar book that is actually funny and a pleasure to read!
Can grammar ever be interesting? Can it be fun? Could it even be funny at times? Yes, yes and yes. I adore this little book. It is accessible, easy to read and enjoyable. I thought I would read a bit each night, just spending 5 mins or so at a time, but I enjoyed reading this so much that I carried on as if I had been reading a novel. I actually WANTED to read a book about grammar, not just felt I should read it. It isn't a patronising book, you won't feel as if you are at school, and it is filled with little titbits on how to remember which spelling or word to use when. Of course, you have to be interested in the subject to enjoy it, but if you do care about grammar and would like to brush up yours, then this is the book for you. Definitely five stars.

I am part of the lost generation.
My grammer is awful, as you'll see from my written review. I'm not sure if it is because I didn't learn it well or if I just wasn't taught it well. I struggled a lot at university, my essays didn't read well, were difficult to follow, and I was frustrated because I felt as though I wasn't able to communicate my thoughts at a higher level. My dissertation was so poorly written that I was considering hiring a copy editor to go through it. I bought this book some time ago and it has been sitting on my bookshelf all this time. I mean who has the time to learn about grammar eh? But I'm glad I got around to reading it. I now own several books on grammar but this one is my favourite. Mainly because it was the only one I could actually read through without my eyes glazing over. What I really liked about this book was that it wasn't prescriptive and 'dry'. It was fun and educational. I particularly liked the way the author demonstrated poor grammar in a humourous way, making the points they were getting across more memorable. I'll admit, not all of it has sunken in after reading it in one pass, but it was still an entertaining read all the same. I am sure it will take much more effort and discipline before I start writing at a level where I will begin to explicitly understand the grammar that I am using. But hey, it's a good start. I'm not giving it five stars because while some of the jokes were laugh out loud funny, some of them were lost on me, to the point where I wasn't able to discern whether or not it was a joke or a serious point. Sometimes it left me wondering - "hang on a minute, is this incorrect? If so then why is it incorrect? Is it a joke? Or is it incorrect? I'm confused". But I also found that this little problem only encouraged me to read more intently, like playing the grammar detective trying to figure out how and where the crime was committed. But overall this grammar book is a great book to read and keep, and perhaps after further reading I am likely to 'get' more of it. The book has all the important subjects in it, presented in an engaging and witty manner. A must have for people like me, who feel that as though their education is lacking this important knowledge and information, but find ordinary books on grammar dull and tedious. Ps. I was feeling self conscious so I went back and edited this entire review.

Bit dry, don't bring it as a holiday read.
Very dry book which would be very good if you're interested in the mechanics of grammar but it wasn't to my taste. I had hoped it would be a little more amusing, there are "amusing" asides but not enough to make it interesting. I got about three quarters of the way through it (I was on a plane and it was my only book) but then gave up.

I'm finding out all the things I should have remembered when I was at school..
Very good book, well written and takes a subject we all hated and makes it easy to read and humorous in parts. A good reference book

Funny and grammatical.
Funny but useful. I enjoyed reading it, learnt some new grammar facts and have been able to use it for a reference, although I want to get a dedicated reference book for that really. I'm glad I got it.
