What's to prevent these from getting stuck in a hungry dog's throat? Are the chinese really out to kill off our pets?

Unfortunately it look that way. At least the Chinese doesn't seem to care much about honesty in regard to ingredients so I've long since stopped feeding anything from China and also avoid everything that has ingredients  sourced from China to keep my animals as safe as I possibly can. The fact that someone fed a product for 7+/- years has no relevance (other than plain luck perhaps..) as is evident from the number of dogs that become sick and/or die from similar Chinese "chew-products". 
And - regardless of the USDA's attempted effort to find the source of the killer treats/chews dogs still continue to suffer and die so I see no reason to feed such low grade products when plenty of all natural,raw and "human grade" food and treats are easily found in my grocer's meat department,often for less than the cost of these inferior products,and as a bonus of giving them raw chicken-wings/-backs even my 14 year old's teeth are still white and without the tartar build-up that cause serious medical issues altho I never had her teeth cleaned. 
The raw chicken also provide important micro nutrients and bacteria our dogs need and I highly recommend giving your dogs raw,meaty bones and chicken,just never,ever give them cooked bones as they splinter. For great info and the science behind this just go to www.rawmeatybones.com  Good luck:)

On the photo on some packs are written 4.08 oz, on others 4.2 oz. which of these packs will be delivered to me?

Do not purchase this item.   It is made in China and made all three of my dogs sick at the same time.  Don’t buy any Dingo products.  Period.

Are the red strips dyed?

Yes, they are not the same. The product was made in America but recently when I purchased a bag of these it said the product was being made in China. I can definitely tell the quality has gone down considerably. My dog Angle didn't even wanna eat one, the price also increased. Originally the red strip which was supposed to be chicken had a ruff feeling and now it has a strange rubber texture. I'd skip on these now, it's not the same product.

Sold through a company in US but made in China.  Yes, I'm aware of the news regarding bad chicken jerky from China.  I've been purchasing this product for 7 years.
