Loved it
This is for anyone living in colder climate. It works beautifully, easy to set up - however, the room temp is a big issue. I managed to get several batches during the Summer, but as soon as the temperature dropped under 18*C, the mould appeared and killed the batch. You would need a heat mat, or something else to keep the temperature permanently between 22-24 Celsius which in my home, in the NE England - not a chance. It’s a very gentle little fellow and it does not like the cold. The taste was gorgeous with added fruit. I would definitely brew kombucha again, but the planning would have to include some kinda warming device/box. Still, five stars are deserved. My bad for living in a freezer.

Soooo thin.....
The scoby arrived in a sealed plastic bag and my first impression was that it was paper thin as it was barely holding its shape and I could vitually see through it. I wondered if it was strong enough for the purpose. This was a far cry from my last starter scoby which was many mahy times thicker. However, I made a 2 ltr batch with it following the enclosed instructions and it turned out well with a still thin, but more robust scoby baby grown. I am now on my second brew and, after only a few days, it looks like the thicker, batch 1 scoby is growing another healthy looking baby already. So, in the end it looks like this is a good enough product to do the job and I have given it 4 stars because of the scare I got when it arrived and having to commit to opening the scarey looking thin thing without being sure of the results but my first batch of kmbucha is good!

Bursting with vitality!
This arrived a little later than expected due to issues with Royal Mail. However, the scoby had been vacuum packed and was in perfect condition, a good colour and with lots of "strands". It came with full, clear instructions for brewing 2L of kombucha. People have complained about there not being enough starter liquid with the scoby but you don't need 2 cups to get you started (though it's good to reserve 2 cups of the new brew to start the next one). When opening the package snip the corner of the bag and squirt the liquid into the prepared tea, then slit it and pop the scoby out. That way you won't spill it everywhere and your hands won't come into contact with the scoby. My scoby was half moon shaped and again, this is perfectly OK - it doesn't need to be a perfect circle to do it's thing! I made the tea, left it to cool (this is very important!), popped the scoby in and it floated straigt away. The picture is of the scoby 24 hours later. As you can see it is still afloat and producing gas bubbles so it's definitely alive and well. My only "query" is that the instructions called for 8 tea bags for 2L, which I think is too many, as the tea is rather strong looking. I'm a lapsed kombucha brewer and from previous experience I think 4 bags is plenty. I did use 8 on this occassion so will see what it tastes like and maybe reduce if necessary. Based on my experience so far I would recommend this product. Remember that a scoby is a living organism so treat it with care and respect. Happy brewing :-)
