Replacement pen is a must have in order for the unit to work. They dont last that long. I would say 6 months with moderate use. Love the unit and would purchase again

Pens dry quickly
Pens are expensive and once opened dry out quickly. If you do not use them daily, it gets expensive to replace. I even sealed my pen in a bag and it dried quickly with top on tightly
