I frequently get called upon to cook for large groups outside my kitchen so I look for portability. I often find the locations where I cook to be poorly equipped so I need to be prepared with my own tools. I have a few small chef and paring knives in my travel kit but wanted something a little larger just in case. For $30 this is a great knife and small when folded. The G10 handle scales concerned me a little as micarta can sometimes have fibers exposed where bits of food could get stuck leading to cross contamination but this micarta appears to be very well sealed so no issues there. The blade is scary sharp right out of the box. I have had surgical blades that were not this sharp. Be very careful handling it. That said, it will likely not hold that edge with rough use so be prepared to sharpen it regularly. The ergonomics are ok but nowhere near perfect. However, it is a folding knife and not a custom chefs knife so set your expectations accordingly. It sits well in my large hands but the square end of the handle does dig a little into the palm of my hand. I am not planning on using this to process large amounts of food for hours on end. If I did, that pressure point would likely cause a blister over time. Use the right tool for the job. If you need to process small amounts of food quickly, this will be more than sufficient. The tension of the blade in the folded position is lacking which makes it easy to flip out one handed. At the same time this also makes it dangerous to carry in a pocket as the blade could open on its own. The little burlap type bag it comes it is cute but I will likely replace it with something a little more sturdy soon. I might consider making something out of Kydex or just look for a sheath that it fits. While its not a replacement for your daily cooking knives it more than fits the bill for camping, travel cooking, and working in a kitchen that you are unfamiliar with what gear they have.

Very nice, the only thing does not lock closed.

very sharp, overall nicely designed. But it weighs a TON. It would not be a very good solution for a backpacker (which is what I was intending to use it for). Fine if you're car-camping or something like that; but, if you have to carry this thing on your back, it's wicked heavy... perhaps look for an alternative?

I was impressed by this as a chef's knife. I bought this for a vacation where we were flying and I wanted to take a sharp prep knife with me as I prefer to cook and rental properties often have terrible quality blunt knives. Its not perfect, it doesn't close all the way so could come open by accident pretty easily if you don't store it in the little bag it comes with. However, it locks open well, it is a nice weight and it was plenty sharp enough for what I needed. I was mightily pleased to have bought this and put in my check bag. I don't know how long it will last but for $20, I'm more than happy it will last more than one trip.

Easy to use. Not heavy. Sharp, great in the kitchen at home or camp. Can go right in your back pack.
