Depends, on a summer sunny day you can barely see it but regular day looks fine.

Is it possible to dismantle it and put in my own led lights?

I don't think so. I wouldn't even try with mine. I hope that helps

What age is this suitable for?

Any age practically, has a battery compartment but it has a screw if i remember correctly. And unless it literally hammers it with a hard object the front plastic glass wont break. Its mainly to be a on a wall and not something to have around.
