The Wizard of Oz (Young Reading Series 2) : Dickins, Rosie, Evangelista, Mauro: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Oz for Munchkins - My first memory as a child is of hiding behind the curtain in our living room, watching "The Wizard of Oz" on television on Christmas Day. I was behind the curtain because of the unpredictable and sudden appearances of the utterly terrifying Wicked Witch of the West. Although nowadays I can watch the film without needing a curtain on standby, that witch still epitomises screen villainy for me and has a timeless appeal. I wanted to introduce the story to my four-year-old daughter and found this book a perfect bridge between the film and the full novel, which is too dark for her age group. For this Munchkin and her mother, it has been a big hit. It simplifies the story well, without straying into saccharin sweetness and the illustrations perfectly capture the quirkiness of the characters and their adventures. This book has also gone down well with several of her friends as presents, and has inspired games of "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" on the paving slabs in the back garden. Review: Great for my 6 year old - Excellent for my 6 year old boy. This is the book that has got him really excited about reading because it has chapters but is manageable on his own (ie parents doesn't have to read it to him ) , still some new and challenging words. Seems just right for his age and I've now bought lots more in this series and he's very excited by his new collection !

Lovely book!
Lovely pictures, easy enough for my daughter to read but chapters to be enough of a challenge (she just turned 9), the story is more in depth than most picture books but doesn't bog down on detail that young children reading themselves might find gets dull. I bought this for her to read and take to school for world book day, she dressed as Dorothy. She still loves this book and has asked me to buy her some more just like it.

Suitable for a young child
A lovely colourful book suitable for a gift for my five year old niece. She loves having stories read to her and she can also read some of the easy words herself.

Service was excellent and the children thoroughly enjoyed it
This book was in brand new condition when it arrived. Service was excellent and the children thoroughly enjoyed it, especially as they were going to see the stage show at the Stratford-upon-Avon theatre

The Wizard Of Oz
Purchased for my young daughter many years ago and it still sits on her shelf today. Wonderful memories of reading it to her as a child.

A great option to introduce beginner readers to Classical Literature.

Ma fille de 6 ans a lu le livre dans la journée. Elle le ramène partout pour faire découvrir aux copains.
