September 13th, 1999... A nuclear waste dump on the Moon unexpectedly detonates, blasting it out of orbit and taking the inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha on a fantastic voyage of discovery to the stars, fraught with danger at every turn! Gerry Anderson's massively popular sci-fi series is presented here as stunning restorations from original film elements, giving an exceptional level of picture quality Space: 1999 has never looked better. Special Features: [] Digitally restored from new High Definition transfers [] Newly remixed 5.1 tracks [] Music-only tracks on most episodes [] Original 'as broadcast' mono track [] Gerry Anderson commentary on Breakaway and Dragon's Domain [] Text episode commentaries on The Last Sunset and Space Brain [] Image galleries of rare and previously unseen stills Review: great classic - loved this show growing up in the 1970s. The moon his being used as dump for nuclear waste and a base has been established for scientific purposes. When the waste explodes the moon is hurled out of orbit. The crew on the base cannot control the moons trajectory or speed and return to earth is impossible. Thus they travel through space in search of a suitable planet. The stories are mostly good and though the creatures are hardly the alien or the predator thats ok. As for the acting its great and the eagle spacecraft are quite good and certainly acceptable as special effects go. For those of you who can remember this show with fondness its great to watch it again. If you dont know this show, its well worth a look. This complete series is great value for money Review: Absolute 70’s classic - Was so glad I purchased this collection on Blu-Ray, the colours are magnificent and so much picture clarity. Was great to watch all the episodes again and re-live my childhood. The episodes are exactly how I remember them and some I didn’t. Yes they maybe slightly outdated, but don’t let that ruin the experience. Had so much fun watching and thoroughly enjoyed. Will definitely watch all episodes again soon.

Oh! The Memories.....
I guess I may be of similar age to many of those that have supplied their reviews for this complete box set? Like many others, I bought this for nostalgic reasons. I've slowly, but surely been re-visiting and purchasing the favourites of my youth (The complete DVD box sets of The Professionals and The Sweeney started the ball rolling for me a couple of years ago). To be honest, I have no real gripes about this box set, hence why I gave it a 5 star review, however it is not perfect. From what I have read about this product elsewhere, it appears that the running order of the episodes is incorrect, especially with season 1 (according to the IMDB website). That didn't bother me too much, because I would never have remembered. I first saw Space 1999 on the TV as a 7 year old, my memory isn't that good! I mention my age, because there are a couple of episodes (A Troubled Spirit and Devil's Domain) where I find it amusing that I was watching the 'scary' stuff at such a young age. It is therefore no wonder why I remembered 'A Troubled Spirit' in particular for many years. It was actually that episode that prompted me to seek out this complete box set. Ok, watching it again some 45 years later isn't quite the same, but it did exactly what I wanted it to, it bought back so many memories. If I am 100% honest, I tried very hard to stay awake whilst watching the first couple of episodes. I questioned why I bothered spending £30.00, but thankfully as the episodes continued, I no longer felt like I had purchased a very expensive sleeping pill. I am currently on Disc 7 of the 12 and I have to say that I am really enjoying it. Yes, I have chuckled at times. The Anderson effects are comical and as for the crew's attire, well say no more! What I have to remind myself of, is that this was a series that was created in the early 70's that looked at life in the distant future. To finish this review - I am sure others will disagree with me, but I prefer Space 1999 to Dr Who (once Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker finished their stints as the Doctor, it never had the same charm). If like me, you remembered watching Space 1999 as a child, but your memory is slightly foggy, this is well worth spending £30.00 on. I'm glad I did!

Great value collection. Great HD quality
I've never been huge fan of Space 1999 - and bought this mostly to help round out my sci-fi collection. IMHO Space 1999 didn't stand up well against the likes of Star Trek. The special effects were cool and there were some great guest stars - but the show was kinda bland and depressing (much like British weather). The show's characters weren't particularly likeable, lacked humour, took everything too seriously ... and with blatant over-acting by some of the extras. Martin Landau's character seemed lacking in charisma, whereas Barbara Bain's acting range just seemed limited to her standing around with a pained expression on her face. Still, Space 1999 had its moments and it remains a must-see for sci-fi buffs interested in the history of the genre. For me, UFO was the stronger of the Gerry Anderson live-action shows and is the one I enjoy more. That show had a funkier vibe - with characters that were more likeable, well-rounded, and clearly a product of their time (some of George Sewell's unashamedly non-PC dialog still cracks me up). Nonetheless, I'm very happy with this Space 1999 set, combining both series delivered in crisp clear HD - and I feel the show looks as great as it possibly could. The effort that's gone into the sets and production design is clear to see. Admittedly, it's sometimes a little too clear as matt images in the background, and wires used to help the actors go flying around in the low-gravity lunar scenes are now much more visible to see. But knowing how it was done and appreciating the effort made to produce this show in a pre-CGI environment is half the fun. Thank you to Network for making this available in bluray, and for repackaging both series into a single bluray set. It's great value given that the current price of this combined set is cheaper than the standalone versions of either series 1 or 2. Hopefully this makes it more accessible for sci-fi fans to enjoy. Although it seems that the disks in this version are crammed a little fuller than the standalone single-series versions (5 episodes per disk rather than 4), I couldn't see any obvious issues with the video quality in my viewing. Kudos also to Amazon's delivery which reached Australia safely in around a week - much better than my other recent orders (sent using Asendia) that have typically been taking 4 weeks (or longer) ... and which never arrive by their promised due date. Amazon's recent poor delivery service, and the arrival of some poorly-packed items which had been crushed or otherwise damaged in transit was making me look at alternative options for future orders. But if my next orders arrive as quickly and in as good a shape as this one did then I can hopefully continue purchasing from Amazon.co.uk.

High quality Nostalgia.
Somehow I missed this series back in the day, and it has been fun catching up. I simply can't believe the fantastic picture quality...Gerry Anderson must have taken great care recording the series. Even the special effects which you would think might be a bit dodgy are fine. Good sound...those thunderbird style chords powering out from time to time. Don't expect plausible physics...solar systems, galaxies and universies seem to be interchageable terms! But the stories are interesting. The title itself reflects the optimism of those days...when a moonbase by 1999 seemed plausible...

September 13th 1999, the year we lost the moon!
I watched this the first time it was shown on TV in the seventies. Basically, UFO got cancelled and this paved the way for Gerry Anderson to create his second live action feature. Series One, i cannot fault at all, all the stories have merits, and some are darn right brilliant. The special effects are also quite good, as are the uniforms and the technology they portray for 1999, but remembering this was the seventies. Stand out episodes are S1/8 'Dragons Domain', this is a scary episode for children, so i would advise caution, it involves a tentacled creature that devours human beings. S1/4 'War Games' this episodes shows you just how vulnerable the Alphans on Moonbase are after repeated attacks that nearly wipes them out. S1/ 17 "The Last Sunset' sees the moon given an atmosphere by an alien race. There are others I am sure you will find interesting and you will need to review seres two for yourself, but it raises some unanswerable questions... with the exception of one crew member, where did the newcomers come from? Where did Victor go? Where is the huge command centre now a small room? How were they able to manufacture new uniforms? Anyway, enjoy.

Excellent Quality Picture
After vaguely remembering this as a young kid in the 70s, I saw a number of episodes on the Horror Channel that I enjoyed reliving the awful monster suites etc. so the wife bought me this for Xmas. First up, picture quality of the restoration is as good as one could hope for and really very crisp. I do note however that the episodes (at least season 1 so far) are totally out of the order they were broadcast. Disc 1 contains episodes 1,13,10,19 & 14 in that order !?

Not of this Earth
So far I am very pleased, though from what I hear from the number of episodes on a disc, they seem to be cramming them too much. I believe disc 1 had 6 episodes, plus all the extras. But, if that is too much, I only saw like two artifacts on the first show, and afterwards everything has been very good. I did find it rather amusing that the last thing on the extras on disc 1, is the Gerry Anderson commentary. At one time he mentions that somebody or other, had hated his earth episode on UFO (which was Gerry's favorite) so much, that they insisted he not have an earth episode AT ALL on this series. Gerry gave his word it wouldn't happen. They said that wasn't good enough, so he had to think of something. So Gerry's answer, which they accepted, was he would arrange them to be separated from the earth's orbit, and we know that occurred. So picture that as the last thing I saw on disc 1. Disc 2, the very first episode, suddenly, moonbase is back in earth's orbit. Not only that, but there are TWO moonbases in it's orbit. Yeah, that'll show them. So now I debate, that I suppose that episode didn't count, since none of it is taking place on earth, but it is funny nonetheless, that his very solution was so quickly violated (understanding I have no idea when it was he made that agreement) seemingly, on the next episode I viewed. (edited) I was mistaken when I said there was six episodes per disc. It's easy enough to make the mistake, as the discs list "exit" as though it's a title name to an episode, thereby seemingly six episodes just to glance at it. You cannot maneuver at all through the menus beyond the episode portion, unless you use "the exit episode".

Awesome for collection!
This is an awesome collective set to own! Because I just love this old timer TV show I couldn' t help myself from buying it. The price was perfect! Just one thing you must know is that this series does not play in Canada DVD players. Unless you own one that plays all regions, like for example this DVD's collection is region 2 (UK) and because where I live my DVD player only plays region 1 (Canada & USA)! So, because I did not want to send it back, it's hard to find this collection for a good price that plays region 1. I decided to buy instead another DVD player that plays all regions/countries DVD's! HeHe Now I can't go wrong! LoL Despite it all, still happy with this purchase! Thank you!

Fantastic quality (review of Imprint's Ultimate Edition on 14 blu-rays)
There are one-star reviews at the top of the review pile and many people will wrongly assume it relates to this release (which it doesn't). Those poor reviews relate to a 10 disc version of Space 1999, not the 14 disc Ultimate Edition released by Imprint, an Australian label. Everything about this boxed set spells quality. The blu-ray discs, the booklet and the hard case that they fit in are beautiful. Inside of the box, each of the (two) series comes in a separate blu-ray case, with season 1 containing six discs and season 2 having eight. The extra two discs in the second set contain all four of the compilation films from the series. In addition, this set contains extras that were included on both the British and American releases, so Imprint are quite right to call this "The Ultimate Edition". If you're a fan of the series then this is a must-buy.
