Are the silkpaint and the sugarveil the same thing?

The Silkpaint AirPen Color Dispenser has different tips than the SugarVeil Piping Dispenser, which has tips specifically designed to work with icings.

Is the air pump supposed to turn on and off during operation because mine does and it seems to make the flow inconsistent even w finger over air hole.

The pump runs continuously except when there is a blockage such as stepping on the air hose or you are using too small a needle tip for whatever material you are loading into the tube and there is a clog. I suggest removing the tube from the pump and putting you finger on and off the air outlet to test the pump.

Is this used on cake decorating?

You can use the AirPen Color Dispenser for cake decorating, but the tips for the AirPen Piping Dispenser would probably be more useful. The AirPen Piping Dispenser is sold on Amazon.

can the silkpaint air pen be used for frosting? It looks the same as Sugar Veil

As far as I can tell they are the exact same product made by the same company and branded differently for two different markets, so I would say yes, you can use it for frosting.

very quick & easy to assemble

Only used this twice so far but it works well, very quick & easy to assemble. It does need a little practice to get smooth lines and have the pressure right for the thick/thin line type you need, however I think will come with practice.

Great for ceramic glazes! Just a hint -make a note of your sg so you know how much water to add -I used with Amaco Velvet Underglaze and it was amazing after just a little practice and only one minor paint explosion.
