## Description

If you’re looking for signs that the modern-day Disney has lost neither its touch nor its savvy nature, then there’s evidence in abundance in the smart modern-day fairy tale Enchanted . Bookended by the kind of old-style animation the studio is rightly famed for, the main, live action segment of the film finds Amy Adams’ Giselle--an archetypal Disney princess in pretty much every sense--dropped slap bang into the middle of modern day New York. What follows is ingenious fun, as Giselle walks round very much as a fish out of water, followed quickly by James Marsden’s prince who attempts to come to the rescue. Thing is, modern day New York and old style princesses don’t really mix, and Enchanted studiously mines the comedy of the scenario, thanks to a smart and witty script. What also lifts Enchanted though are the delightful tips of the hat to classics of Disney old. And we’re not just talking the show-stopping numbers: there are references to the likes of Beauty and the Beast , Snow White and Sleeping Beauty to be found here, and a star-making performance from Adams powering the whole film forward. One of the very best family movies of 2007, Enchanted does occasionally stumble through the odd twee moment (and it could really use a villain with more screen time than Susan Sarandon’s wicked stepmother gets), but that can’t hide the fact that it’s terrific fun, lavishly made and, at its best, quite brilliant. A modern day family classic, and great to see Disney once again delivering the kind of entertainment it excels at. -- Simon Brew An animated fairy tale meets modern, live-action comedy. The story follows the beautiful princess Giselle (Amy Adams) who is banished by an evil queen (Susan Sarandon) from her magical, musical animated land and finds herself in the gritty reality of the streets of modern-day Manhattan. Shocked by this strange new environment that doesn't operate on a 'happily ever after' basis, Giselle is now adrift in a chaotic world badly in need of enchantment. But when Giselle begins to fall in love with a charmingly flawed divorce lawyer (Patrick Dempsey) who has come to her aid - even though she is already promised to a perfect fairy tale prince back home - she has to wonder: Can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world?

Review: True fairytale stuff! - I have had the sheer delight to watch this film a few times now and it still holds me completely captive every time! It's a true fairytale for all us die hard romantics. Amy Adams plays Giselle, a hapless romantic who is looking for her one true love, Prince Edward, (James Marsden). Said Prince is also searching and when they meet it's love at first sight. This is all done in animation. But alas, Edward's evil stepmother has other plans for Giselle and tricks her by disguising herself as an old woman who only wishes the couple happiness. The old woman pushes Giselle into a wishing well and she, ( with us in tow!), is thrust into the very real world of Manhattan. Enter dreamy Patrick Dempsey as a cynical divorce lawyer. He rescues Giselle from the dangers of the city and takes her home to help her out. This is where the story really kicks in, and I won't go into any more detail, I don't want to spoil it for you. Susan Sarandon is on top form as the evil stepmother and Timothy Spall is great as the sleazy henchman. But top marks must go to Amy Adams and James Marsden. They are fantastic! All in all then, this is a great film to watch if you like a good love story with a twist. Watch it if you enjoy any Disney film. Happy viewing people!
Review: Kids film the grown-ups won't doze off during! - Most of my six year old daughter's favourite films make me want to doze off, frankly. Not this one. Watched it more times than I care to think about and it never fails to make me smile. Amy Adams is a vastly under-rated and hugely talented actress and she is just brilliant in this film. Susan Sarandon and Timothy Spall also clearly enjoying hamming up their roles. Sure there is some deep and meaningless underlying lesson to this film, something in the comparison between the "fairy tale" world and the real one, but it's passing me by as I'm just enjoying the film as a fabulous bit of family-friendly entertainment. Need to fill a rainy afternoon with children? You could far worse than close the curtains, get out the popcorn and settle down to watch this film. Great film.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A delightful family film!

We loaned our copy of this film to someone and didn't get it back! ...but we'd enjoyed it so much we felt we just had to replace it in our collection...a truly enchanting mixture of animation and 'real' characters this appeals to children and adults alike. The Disney princess, through magic, winds up on the streets of New York, encountering life in the raw; her sweet innocence goes from touchingly amusing, when she appeals to a tramp for help, to hysterically funny, with a reanactment of Disney's Snow White scene with the woodland animals. Baddies and goodies are easily identified as our Princess brings a little magic to real-life New York, touching the lives of all those she encounters. Not too difficult to foresee the happy ending! A real must-watch film for all.
