The prefect chess board
It's perfect, everything I'm looking for and more. I comes in perfect condition. Receive in 5 days. But could have use bubble wrap or something to protect the board it was just in a thin cardboard box, inside of a bigger cardboard box. Absolutely could have broken during shipping. Also it cost $150 which is very over priced. But I do love the board.

Chess Board
I was so excited when I opened this chess board and it is so very nice. I think it looks better in person then the picture on line. Totally recommend this board.

The truth
It is mdf with veneer. The mdf is heavy (oof) the veneer is pretty. The coordinates are not applied well. Good: The veneer is very pretty. The board has a satin like finish probably polyurethane wood protector. The weight implies denser mdf than some other types. The squares seem straight and true. They are not appearing to be slanted or having gaps. Definately no gaps but unsure about squareness to the board. It is very shiny so hard to tell. I am not worried. Veneer seems stuck on well and not apt to peel off. Bad: Some of the finish is hazy in parts and not uniform. Looks streaky and faded then satin finished so the bad blends with the good and looks unnaturally weird. The finish needs to be more consistent and then clearcoated. It is noticeable and detracts from an otherwise high quality finish and stain job. Depending on how light hits it and viewing angle this either disappears or is very prominent. These boards are also prone to corner damage. The mdf easily smashes. There is slight damage but I do not know how to repair that since it is not solid wood. The letters are printed on with not durable white paint. They will come off. Mine are faded and splotchy. I will have to either trace over them with a wood burner or most likely remove them completely with rubbing solvent, reposition and redraw them with router, then fill them with liquid gold metallic paint. The golden brown wood with gold letters might be to hard to see due to lack of contrast. Full disclosure: I did not pay $60 for a new board but $20 plus $10 shipping. So I got a discount because of the corner damage. It seems to be a fair deal. Boards are expensive and I would rather pay $30 for this used then $60 new. But then again I make boards and do not like veneer or mdf. This is a better board then others and worth the money. A better board would likely be triple the price or more at a specialty store. I like the board and am happy with my purchase. I ordered the size 6 and it arrived in a box that said size 5 but had a sticker covering the 5 and said size on it. the board is a 6 and it measures 21.125" with exactly 2.165" squares (55mm). The border is 1.96" (49.8mm). It is a hair less than approximately 0.630" (16mm). The corners are bumped but I was mostly concerned with damage to the top and it seems to be sturdy enough for play. Maybe I can clamp and glue the corners and then repaint the edge.

Board box is labeled No.5, but size is No. 6 board (21.25x21.25).
Ordered a No. 6 board, but box says No.5 board. I measured and the board IS the size of 21.25x21.25 as listed in the description and on Husaria's website of the No. 6 board. Obviously, I DID receive the correctly size no. 6 board, but incorrectly labeled box... Weird.. Thanks for the reviewer that recommended to "wax" it. Made it even nicer. Matches my hand carved G.O.T. set that I got from the Ukraine.

NOT "Made from inlaid sycamore and sapele mahogany"--it's compresed cardboard and laminate!
I dropped my board yesterday and a piece of the corner flaked off. It's just compressed cardboard and laminate. It is definitely not worth the hefty price.

Fragile and Brittle
The first board I received had a smashed edge and had been shipped without any cushioning to prevent damage. Amazon processed a replacement, but the second board also has an edge that is damaged. The second board had been shipped with a little bit more care and since the box wasn't damaged, I think this isn't a shipping problem, rather that the board is very poor in quality. This chess board is definitely not worth what they are charging given how brittle it is. It is exceedingly fragile and is likely to break at the slightest pressure being applied to it. Edit: [increasing from 1 star to 3 stars] While the previous noted concerns remain, I think it's important to mention that the seller is great at addressing customer problems. They are quick and responsive in resolving issues.

Great Chessboard for the price!!! Hope this review helps!!
Ok, let me first start off saying, researching for a good chess board was harder than I thought... Grade 9 Wood working, we were given a choice to build a Chessboard, or a cutting board... I took the cutting board and regretted it ever since, but luckily for these guys I did .. The board is super nice, but let me start off by saying it is VANEERED... Which I figured all chessboards were SOLID wood.. ALOT of the big chess online companies, sell Vaneer boards for an OVER PRICED markup... why? I have no idea, but these guys not only have nice quality boards, but the price is unbeatable from what I've seen.. I choose a Tournament 6 board... IT IS HUGE!!! I thought I had the measurements correct, metric to imperial, I might have gotten confused, lol but the squares are larger then 2 inches... my Wooden cheesemen I have, very nice quality chessmen.. The king size of 3.375 and the #6 seems very large for it (which I will buy 4 to 4.5 next anyways lol) just wanted people to know that... really, for the price, it's amazing and great quality... highly recommend unless you are looking for Solid wood, but compared to other Vaneered, why pay a high price, go Solid wood at that point, but for a good wooden tournament chessboard, cannot beat this!!!

Faulty item
Received a faulty item as shown in picture. Can't even glue it easily myself since the side band that sticks out is actually too long. Will have to return the item, which is a pain
