Akira Volume 2 (AKIRA KODANSHAED GN)

Was bought for my brother as a gift. Was nearly £10 dearer at comic book shop. Nice solid book with amazing illustrations. Couldn’t tell you what it’s about but brother was really happy.

If you only read one Manga Akira is THE one to go for. All six volumes are awesome. The amazing detail, flawed characters, the sense of movement in the action and the frankly HUGE story. The anime is a masterpiece but only really scratches the surface really. All six volumes are to be devoured then reread annually! I always get something out of each revisit whether it's just flicking through or reading properly. Otomo is a true auteur. Love it!

Good story, good quality of the drawings. Even adults will enjoy the Akira series. You need book 1 first as the story continues on where it ended in book 1.

Peccatoche abbiano ribaltato le immagini per un ordine di lettura occentale. Da parte di uno che di manga non ne sa né ne vuole generalmente sapere, ma che è anche per un approccio filologico all'opera di altre culture (perché imbastardire qualcosa di straniero secondo il nostro gusto non ha senso: non è più originale, ma non è nemmeno nostro).

Havia assistido a animação primeiro, foi amor a primeira vista tornando-se pra mim a melhor animação já feita e adaptada. Evidentemente fui procurar o mangá, e optei por essa versão que a "Dark Horse" lançou nos EUA (pena eu não saber Japonês rs, então tive que ir de inglês mesmo). Mas valeu o investimento. A história é construída categoricamente em uma crescente, é imprevisível, e te faz ficar boquiaberto em várias ocasiões. A capa poderia ter sido melhor, ela é mole e o número de páginas é muito grande... Poderia ter tido um acabamento melhor (capa dura). Mas basicamente esse foi o único erro que encontrei. OBRIGATÓRIO PARA COLECIONADORES!

You’re probably familiar with the story and if not, you should know it’s one of the seminal works in manga history, and even Japanese literature. My only point in this review is to point out if you’re a manga traditionalist, that this edition and all five other volumes are printed in *western* format. So read from left to right, not the common right to left format that manga fans may be used to.
