Metal Chair Base
Bought as a replacement for the ABS plastic base on my chair. The black metal low profile base comes in a shoebox sized package. Assembly is required. There are 5 spokes, a central Hub, and a cosmetic plastic cover. All parts are individually plastic wrapped to protect the powder coat. Also supplied is a packet of m6 hex bolts and an allen key/hex wrench. There is only one way a spoke will fit on the hub and the spokes are identical. My hub had two drilled holes per spoke but only the one closest to the center had threads to receive the bolt. There is a reasonable friction fit on the spokes so take care to align the the holes for the bolts when sliding the spoke onto the hub as it may take a little bit of force to move it around. Base is exactly the same size and height as the plastic one it replaced. Center opening is a standard 2"/50mm and my gas lift fit perfectly. No wheels were supplied but again the spokes have sockets for a standard 11mm caster and the wheels from the original base fit perfectly. Assembly was straightforward and took about 15 minutes. It was delivered at 12.30 and I was sat in my chair writing this review by 1pm. Reassembling the Chair was straightforward (!! remember to put the plastic cover on the gas strut first!)! Probably the most difficult bit was pulling the wheels off the old base.(firm grip and steady pull while twisting) My immediate impression is that it feels solid and sturdy. It seems well made with clean looking welds. I'm a big fella and use my chair daily. If anything goes wrong I'll be back here to tell you about it. Tip. Check on the hex bolts after a week or so, and regularly after that as they will almost certainly loosen over time. Tape the allen key to the bottom of the chair so it is handy if you need it.

Reassuringly well made
I bought this steel replacement for a plastic cheapie which was fitted to my Melokea S1 chair, this failed after only 6 months use, despite it claiming to be "heavy duty". I was tempted to go for a one-piece aluminium part, but the one I was looking at was only rated for 400 lbs, whereas this one is 2400! The package is neatly packed and fits very precisely together, 5 Allen keyed bolts holding the legs onto the very solid steel central part. Took no more than 5 mins to put together, but don't forget to put the plastic guard over the end of the seat post BEFORE fitting the post into the base, as once you've sat on it, it's difficult to remove!! There is no hint of movement in the legs themselves once the Allen keys are fitted, given the quality of the steelwork and the precision with which they fit together, I can see why this item is relatively expensive (I paid £43) but over all I think the product is good value for money. If only chair manufacturers fitted decent bases in the first place..... but I guess this would make them a lot more expensive. I'll certainly never buy a chair with plastic base again, particularly now I have this metal one! I went for a nice set of soft rolling double castors as well, much nicer than the originals. So OK I have spent as much repairing the chair as it originally cost, but at least I know the base won't fail!

Buy this when you have had enough of the "heavy duty" plastic bases.
Nice strong base, easy to assemble. Price is high compared to the heavy duty plastic. When you have had 2 heavy duty plastic bases break in 12 months due to stress fractures, you start to understand the price differences. (I have a tilt high back office chair 1970s era and very heavy)

Great item but over priced by £10
All chairs that use this design should come with a metal base in my opinion. This base is good and sturdy and does the job as expected. This is my second one as I have two chairs where the plastic base has failed around the wheel mountings. This is easy enough to assemble and is sturdy once assembled and you get an Allen key to put it together. The tubes fit a central hub however the fit can be a little troublesome pushing the legs onto the hub especially if you were elderly and have little strength mostly they go straight on but I found 2 of the legs were a little tight. Good product but I reckon £10 over priced.

Sturdy, standard sizing, easy to assemble
Replacement base to repair broken part on gaming chair. Now as new. Easy to assembly, strong material, remember to put on the plastic cover before pushing in the gas lift.

Fantastic Item!
I bought an AK Racing brand chair nearly two years ago for just over £300 from a nearby Computer Shop. Last week one of the plastic legs broke off taking the castor with it. I wasn't happy with taking a perfectly good chair to be recycled due to one failure and I was unsure as to the manufacturers warranty or if it even applied. After looking at Amazon on the remote chance I could buy a replacement base, I came across this fantastic 'universal' base. The new base arrived in a shoebox sized package and took less than five minutes to assemble. What do I like about it? The legs on this base are made out of metal, my existing wheels / castors fitted perfectly and the base's centre hole is the standard 50 mm bore which matches most, if not all, chair piston diameters. As for removing the original base from my chair? That took about an hour of hacksaw and mallet work! Right now, my AKRacing chair with this new base fitted is sturdier and more solid than it originally was, probably due to the metal legs. Overall, i'm very happy.

Brilliant! Fixed an older chair.
I have a £125 "gamer chair" I've had for just over a year now, and one of the wheels popped off.. Because even though the base seemd quality it was plastic and was "honeycomb" around where the wheels clip in... Its this what broke, and this has been the offender for every chair. The missus suggested buying a new chair for £100+ but that seemed a total waste, and then I spotted this... Solid metal? £26? Seemed too good to be true? So it arrived, the alan key supplied is pretty poor quality but one end will work, so it's all assembled, I slap on the old wheels that came with the chair and boom! Winner winner chicken dinner, the seats as good as new! It is much higher than the old one, but everything seems better, sounds quiter on the floor boards, doesn't seem to creak as much, just feels really good and solid. I play a lot of online games from FPS to MMOROGs and pretty much everyone I know has had these issues, even with "£200+" chairs, now I'm glad I've found something to recommend... And I'm even more happy the "throw away society" didn't win this round with what's a perfectly fine chair (and perfect with this item on it).

It works but..
I bought this as I have a large chair which needs a wide base. The previous one was not as wide and this had resulted in damage to the gas cylinder. I had very good wheels already and a new gas cylinder so only needed the base. I was surprised that it arrived in a smallish rectangular box - however this was due to this needing assembly. The previous base was welded and very solid; this one had a small well made star and then the arms were to be fitted over the small arms and attached with Allen bolts. These were supplied with the appropriate Allen key. The arms were quite a struggle to slide onto the star with one in particular being very tight and scraped the black finish from the arm of the star. The arms need care lining up to avoid cross threading the bolts. The wheels fitted, though again one of the arms was a very tight fit as the finish seemed a little uneven. However they do fit. The final part that I felt was rather substandard was the top cap which was made from metallic finished plastic which was extremely thin and insubstantial. Luckily I had kept the two part cap from my previous base which was far less flimsy so I fitted that instead. I am sure it will be serviceable but this was an expensive base compared to the alternatives.
