To understand how the product works when used without the company's separate magnetic case, please watch my video in response to the question "What are the dimensions of the metal ring (adhesive)?" Despite the vendor's mistaken statement about iPads, the product-- for me-- has been a very good product and is unique in so many ways. So to summarize: 1. The magnetic ring comes with the stand and has permanent adhesive and must be attached directly to the back of a compatible device such as the iPad Pro 12.9". 2. Alternatively, the company sells a separate back cover/case which contains circular magnets providing similar functionality to the magnetic ring allowing you to forgo the permanence of the magnetic ring. 3. If you are unconcerned with resale value of permanently attaching the magnetic ring and also use Apple's Magic Keyboard for iPad when away from the stand, then you can forgo the company's separate case.
