Very Impressive, Good Quality and Large Enough for a Family
Very impressed by this water jug. Purchased it at a reduced price.., about the same as I pqid for a smaller, inferior one but this one is in a whole different class. Yes, it was probably reduced because of a design flaw.., the tap water could leak out by the handle because the handle is placed lower than the sides of the jug.., but u just have to fill it with 50mls less water.., hardly an enormous effort to overcome. Unlike my last Brita jug, you don't have to spend minutes trying to fit the filter holder into the jug (no notches to match up or break).., it just slides in as easy as anything. Although I have always used Brita filter jugs, the plastic on this one feels much better quality and longer lasting. It also takes the filters I used before (Maxtra) so no wasteage there. It stores enough water so I have to refill it about half the times I did. Brilliant, as although I am lucky enough to have a teen to make coffee sometimes, he seems only to be able to make it whilst emptying the jug and leaving it empty. No more delays waiting for the water to filter when I have to make a coffee myself! I would imagine you can get four very large mugs of coffee from the water this jug stores. Ideal for a family. The thing that no one seems to comment on when you have a water jug.., is that you don't have to keep replacing kettles. Before I started using them, I was lucky if a kettle lasted a year, usually 6 months. They all started leaking from the bottom. It didn't matter if they were cheap or expensive, they all leaked within a space of months. I'm still using the same kettle 2 years later since I started using filter jugs. So it saves me a lot of money. I have wide door shelving in my fridge so can put the jug on these shelves., but people with a small fridge will have problems with this. But I doubt anyone who needed a large jug like this would have a small fridge. And the water tastes wonderful. Its sweet and refreshing not tasting of chlorine and metal like the water straight out of the tap in this area often does. As you can see, I can't say enough about this filter jug and would recommend it to anyone.

Great filter - wife finds it heavy
We live in a very hard water area, over the years we have destroyed endless kettles that would need descaling in days. Eventually we were gifted a one cup kettle (Breville) with its own filter, things improved immediately but even with the filter it would scale regularly. So we then brought one of the filters and started filling the kettle with filtered water, no more scale, the kettle still needs descaling about once a year but I can cope with that. We brought this filter as it holds enough water to not have to refill every time we filled the kettle. There are some problems with this jug.... - filling it is easy, the opening opens to let the water in from the tap BUT user beware over fill it and excess water flows down the handle onto the work top - solution donโt over fill. - when full the wife finds it very heavy, - the black flappy thing that sits opens when you pour the water can โdisruptโ the flow of the water, especially when the unit is full for some reason. We just keep the flappy thing open. This helps to keep the flow controllable. - we have just had to buy a second one of these, the first broke where the handle meets the jug, we feel this was partly down to poor design as the weight of the water when it is full is concentrated in one place on the jug, having said that it took 2 years to break. - we found that every month we have to remove build up from our very hard water around the filler hole and where the lid fits onto the jug, but this is only because of our very hard water. -the filter timer works well and we find that we can get an extra week or two out of each filter, we just keep an eye on our kettle and replace both filters at the same time when coffee quality starts to go off.

This jug it's worth its price and even more...
At first please excuse my English, it's not my mother language. I'm not writing a review about Brita filtering system (you will find plenty of information everywhere) but I will focus my review on the jug itself and to recommend it as an upgrade to Brita users. I had a Marella jug before, it got it almost for free buying 12 filters. At first it seems not so different and free price can't be beaten but look at all this improvements over the Marella jug: - it has rubber on the handle and at the bottom, so it does not slip - it has and automatic cover for refills so you don't have to use your thumb to keep the cover open when refilling (it far more comfortable since the jug full of water it's a bit heavy...) - it has a true filter metering system, not just a 1 month countdown. I wish to know if I have to replace the filter a little earlier (maybe I filtered to much water this month or my water hardness wears the filter faster) because it's my own health at stake. - despite what's written in the Amazon product page this jug it's smaller (1.25 liters instead of 1.4). And you can fill the funnel with just 0.75 liters instead of 1 liter. Believe me it's an improvement, the jug is less bulky and more handy. - The water does not spill over the jug when pouring, not even a drop

Overall a good jug to have
I used to use bottled water for drinking and cooking, until I purchased this jug. Overall I am very pleased with the purchase. The design is good, it looks elegant, and you don't need to open the lid to fill the water which is convenient. However, I agree with previous customer reviews that it leaks from the handle if filled to the top (hence 4 stars). I can definitely taste the difference between filtered water and tap water, it's got rid of the bleachy smell of tap water, and gives the water a slightly sweet/pure taste. There's a BRITA Meter in the lid, which is "the first intelligent cartridge exchange indicator with 3 Way measurement of water quality". This is somewhat convenient because it tells you when to change the cartridge. However I'm not too sure whether this actually gives an accurate measurement of the water quality, or it's just another posh version of the 'Memo' indicator found on some other BRITA jugs, which typically tells you to change after 1 month. This speculation initially came up as I saw the metering pins were actually in contact with the unfiltered water at the top part of the jug (i.e., not yet being filtered through the cartridge), so measuring the quality of unfiltered water is pointless in my opinion, and I can't justify the quality of unfiltered tap water changing from 100% to 0% over a matter of weeks. Well, I could be wrong, perhaps I haven't quite grasped the measuring mechanism of it yet. Anyway the other evidence was that, I went on a 1-week trip during which I obviously didn't use the jug, but the indicator still prompted me to change new cartridge after about 1 month of use (I didn't use it heavily in the other 3 weeks either). Having said that, even if it's just another version of 'memo' indicator which promps you to change the cartridge after 1 month, it's still better than not having it at all.

Review
I am very happy with this product. The pros and cons are as follows: Pros: - The jug looks very nice - The jug is well-built: the rubber feet are useful for grip, the handle is ergonomically pleasant, the pouring flap works perfectly, and the filling mechanism is satisfactory (see below) - The jug, when purchased, was only marginally more expensive than its cheaper counterparts (also by Brita) Cons: - To fill the jug, you pour water onto a counterbalance. The weight of water pushes the counterbalance down, allowing water to enter the jug. Once the counterbalance moves down, this mechanism works fine. When you start pouring water onto the counterbalance, however, water splashes everywhere, making the task messier than it needs to be. - The water jug certainly improves the taste of the water, although it does not always taste as good as bottled water (I have tried the jug in multiple locations) - Small black particles end up in your water. I don't think this is a problem, but it psychologically detracts from the idea that the drinking water is "as good as bottled water". - The filters are expensive, although I bought 24 in a bundle for a good deal - The jug may hold 2.4L of air, but it cannot hold 2.4L of water because the water must sit below the filter. If the water level rises above this, unfiltered water sits in the upper compartment. This is an issue because it then leaks from the filling mechanism (counterbalance described earlier) whilst pouring. That said, jug holds more than enough water for 2-3 glasses of water. Summary: There are a few cons to this product but, all-in-all, I am happy with this product and would definitely recommend it to anybody who could afford the expensive cartridges. The jug alters the taste of the water, although I don't think it 'cleans' the water. If you read their website, they use phrases such as "removes the chlorine taste" rather than "removes the chlorine". If you are looking for a jug to clean your water, you may want to do some thorough research. If you simply want your water to taste nicer, this is a perfect solution.

Fills the kettle and then some without breaking a sweat!
I bought this jug because my other one was low capacity but heavy to lift when full. With this one I keep just enough in it for day to day use but when I want to fill the kettle or some pans with filtered water I can fill it to maximum capacity. It easily filters enough water for a large pasta pan now whereas I would have to refill my old one three times. Only comes with one filter. As our water pressure is so high, the self closing lid doesn't close unless you use a steady stream of water. Water will leak from the back of the lid if the top reservoir is overfilled. When pouring, water will also leak from the self closing lid if there is water in the top reservoir but this isn't a problem as the filter gauge isn't in the way anymore (mine used to get water in them and break). Overall it's a great filter, much better than my old one and a bargain price too.

Good quality jug with all the "bells & whistles"!
Arrived as promised, well packed and undamaged. Took a bit of time with the initial assembly. The filler float stop took a bit of figuring out but once I identified what it was, found where it fitted. Prepared the filter as per instructions and was then up and running. We are in a bad limescale area and seeing clear water instead of the usual milky water is a nice change. A word of advice when filling the jug: Do not fill with excess pressure as it is easy to overfill and the water leaks out via the handle. The trick is to fill it to the point that the filler float closes and stop. It will still allow water into the unit and overfill if you do continue. Too much pressure and you can't see the float close and will overflow. I bought the Brita filter jug purely for filling a Morphy Richards One Cup Hot Water dispenser to reduce the amount of limescale and it does its job admirably. (our previous kettle was descaled manually every couple of weeks) 16th April 2019 Been using the filter jug for nearly 4 & a half years and the item is still doing its job and I haven't needed to descale the coffee maker at all.
