YES, you can. You also can use the Avantree Quartet transmitter instead as that transmitter has no built-in battery.

You can use any headphones with 3.5 Jack connector

How many headphones can you connect to a receiver? Manuf. website indicates you can connect two to one receiver. So 3 Receivers = 6 headphones connect

AS FAR AS I KNOW, you can connect only 1 3.5mm earphone to each receiver, or 1 optical interface device, but not both at the same time. You *could* use a 3.5mm y-cable to connect 2 3.5mm earphones to one receiver, but keep in mind there is only 1 volume control on the receiver, so both earphones would be at same volume. I am not aware of any manufacturer support for 2 earphones connected to one receiver. I suggest you ask Avantree this question to clarify their support.

Can the transmitter have a microphone as the audio source?

Yes, you can connect the transmitter to a microphone headphone monitor output as audio source. If your microphone does not have that output, then it will not work.
