Classic TV that brought back great memories
I remember as a child laughing at the antics of these two lads. I bought the DvD and binge watched the series - two discs per day. I laughed a great deal. Great writing and brilliant acting. Today's programme makers can learn from them. Highly recommend this DVD Box set.

1970s BBC comedy series that 40 years later is still extremely funny and applicable to present day societal issues
Having grown up in America, I had never seen The Likely Lads until buying this DVD box set a couple months ago on the recommendation of my English husband. He wanted to revisit a television series he remembered from his elementary school days (specifically the later series that aired in the 70s) and I wanted to see what the fuss was all about. I absolutely love this collection, particularly the later shows in colour. It's amazing how relevant the financial, personal, political and societal issues, that are covered in this series, are to today's same problems/issues in Britain! (I've lived in Britain since university). Even though the show primarily revolves around these two close friends and their conversations...it's never boring. I like the contrast between the two and the comedic tension it causes in their relationship(s). They both represent varying aspects and opinions of British society: one aspires to middle class life and all it's trappings while the other firmly holds onto his working class ideals and "old" Labour Party sentiments.....and they take the "mick" out of each for it and it's hilarious...self effacing English wit and humour at its best! I had never heard of these actors before...they're fantastic! I've watched the DVDs twice already! This particular set has all the series. Buy it, you won't regret it!

Amazing!
I can't tell you enough how much I love this series. Watching Terry and Bob ducking and diving their way through life, trying (and mostly failing) to pick up girls as they meander their way through their somewhat pointless existence, trying to make sense of it all while staring down into a pint of ale. If you've never seen this before please give it a try. The early black & white episodes might not be as funny as the later 'Whatever' series but it's all essential viewing as it introduces you to the characters and sets up Bob and Terry's early history together which they often mention or look back on in the following series. Be patient and stick with it as you will really grow to love Terry and Bob. It also has some very poignant and soul searching moments which I could very much relate to. I love how the series left me with the feeling that Terry and Bob were a couple of guys that I used to know, like old friends. This is my favourite series of all time, and in my opinion, essential viewing.

Little comedy gem
This comes as a 3 dvd pack , one dvd is the Likely Lads while the other two are What Happened to The Likely Lads. The Likely Lads dvd has 2 discs containing 14 episodes of the original 20 episodes. The rest are lost. Itโs a wonderful set, to see Terry and Bob back in the politically incorrect era of the 1960โs and โ70โs, smoking and drinking and not having a care in the world. Youโd never get a tv show made now with the same truth and candour that this show had. The characters are so much of their time, real Jack-the-lads, you could meet in your own neighbourhood. They lived in poor working class homes and worked hard jobs for very little pay. This was a window into a lost world but a world where they made the best of things, and where humour was the best medicine.

a likely story!!!!!
Without doubt, and staight to the point, sheer gold... Comedy ats its best up there with the greats. jostling for an all time slot.. the 60's episodes granted are a primer for the stellar entity of whatever happened? The pathos and character studies are perfect, you cry with laughter and pain in the same sentence, genius.. I remeber this on tv as a child, and delighted then in the innocence and naievety of the main characters. Reaquainting again gives even more value to the event, its the same ingredient as Only fools, where you are not there just for the laughs, but for the people, the humour is almost a bonus to the dramatic nuances.. put simply I love it.. The saddest aspect is the real life falling out of the main protaganists, Bewes and Bolam, in the mid 70's, which meant a premature end to a wonderful creation... This sereies is crying out for a reunion piece, to tie the loose ends etc.. this would stop me having to make it up in my head.. come on boys do it for the art, do it for the fans, do it for yourselves.. the clock is ticking...

Timeless humour and so very funny.
This takes me back to my youth and so very happy to be able to watch these programmes again. The black and white editions are very good quality despite their age and the colour series 1 and 2 are superb. I havenโt watched all the episodes yet as I only received the box set yesterday but am very pleased so far. I will update the review if I encounter any issues. Thank you Amazon.

This is pure comedy gold. Its so well written and it's a shame its been slightly forgotten.
Pure comedy gold. These were aired at around the time I was born, so yes it's very 70s and some of the idealism and culture of those times are apparent. However, the writing and performances are so good that it doesn't matter. This is up there with Porridge (same writing team) and deserves better than the odd airing on BBC Four or UK Gold. James Bolam and Rodney Bewes have a great chemistry but Bolam as Terry is the icing on the cake. His bitterness at losing out on the changes that Britain went through in the early 70s whilst he was in the army in Germany and yearning for simpler times are at odds with his best mate Bob's new affluent and social-climbing lifestyle. However, the scrapes they get into, or rather the scrapes Bob gets into thanks to Terry make it the ultimate buddy show. Ultimately, its men being boys and never really growing up. Fabulous.
