Easy DIY Kit That Actually Works I was impressed by how well this Turtle Wax Scratch Repair Kit handled the small but annoying blemishes on my car. The kit comes with everything you need: the clear coat pen for filling in light scratches and the polishing compound with pads for finishing work. The directions were straightforward, and the process was simple enough that I could do it in my driveway without any special tools. What I liked most is that the results were noticeable right away. Light scratches and swirls that had been bothering me for months practically disappeared after a single application. The clear coat pen flows evenly and doesn’t clump if you apply it carefully, and the polishing pads are sturdy enough to use multiple times. I also appreciated that the compound wasn’t overly harsh—it smoothed out the finish nicely without leaving haze behind. One thing to keep in mind is that this works best on clear coat scratches. If the damage is deep enough to catch your fingernail, you’ll need a professional repair. For light to moderate imperfections though, this kit really does the trick. Bottom line: A convenient, affordable solution for everyday scratches that makes your car look noticeably better with minimal effort.

This is a great product, but it requires education and attention to detail for a successful repair. I suspect many of the negative reviews are from expectations of a miracle product that requires no effort. You need to watch a few youtube videos on scratch repair before attempting to use this product. I had 4 inch gashes in my new car from the garage door closing on it. The scratches were deep, almost to metal, and very narrow (<2mm). I setup a work light and a magnifying glass for inspection of the repair. 1) Clean the area with paint prep and apply touch up paint from the dealer inside the scratch. Wait overnight. Repeat if not good coverage. 2) Apply clear coat inside the scratch. Reapply multiple clear coat layers until running your nail on the scratch you feel a bump from the clear coat instead of your nail catching the in scratch. Wait 1 Hr between clear coat applications. Wait overnight after the last clear coat application. 3) Use the #2,3 & 4 wet sanding pads in order. I had to use #2 multiple times until the magnifying lens showed that I had removed the clear coat bump and the surface was perfectly flat. I also reduced the work area by cutting down the pads until they were only slightly bigger than the scratch. This reduces the sanded area to just around the scratch, instead of the 2 inches wide in the instructions. #2 required some finger pressure to remove the bump. The last pads only light finger pressure. 4) After one application of the clarifying compound, I used my orbital buffer and polished the sanded area with Meguiars Ultimate Compound to a shine. The scratch is not invisible, but it is hard to see and is easily missed. Great product.

I bought this to fix some small scratches on the back of my car caused by the garage door closing on it accidentally. I didn't have high hopes that it would cover the scratches, but to my surprise it did! I followed all directions exactly, and although it doesn't look 100% like it did, it did an amazing job, and no one else would ever know that the scratches had ever been there. Just make sure you follow the directions exactly, and it really works well!

The did not work for me

I had a few scratches on the side of my dark blue car that were very noticeable. They were deep enough to get caught a bit on my fingernail, but not deep enough to reach the paint, so a top coat repair seemed to be the right choice. After seeing a couple instruction videos, I decided to try this product. As an experiment, I used the top coat pen on one scratch and let it dry overnight. Right away, I noticed the scratch had virtually disappeared, so I was pretty encouraged. Next day, I used the sanding pads to remove the excess top coat. I kept working on it until I noticed that I had removed ALL of the new topcoat that I had applied and the scratch reappeared! I tried another scratch, paying better attention to how I was using the top coat pen and trying to work the resin into the scratch better. Next day after curing, same result: the scratch reappeared after sanding. So I put this kit aside and just used rubbing compound to remove the scratches, and then polish to bring back the finish. I was a bit worried that I would start removing paint, but my rags never turned blue (the color of my car) so I got lucky this time. So my conclusion is this: a top coat pen can quickly reduce the visibility of a scratch, but if you want professional results you have to use rubbing compound followed by polish. I really wanted to like this product, and maybe others have had better results, but I will never buy it again nor recommend it.
