Review: Another classic from Deep Purple - Don't ask me why it took me so long to complete my Purple collection (well, the records I like most). I decided to buy it mainly because of the guys in the band (hey, I love Glenn Hughes and everything he does, including "BCC") and also because I think it's one of the best records from the "Coverdale/Hughes" era. Really funky, influenced by GH, and Coverdale's voice is in great shape. For Purple fans, it is a must buy! Let me add that, when I received my copy, I felt somehow afraid of what I saw. The booklet colour reminded of some xerox copies (even with good quality) and I prepared myself for the worse (maybe a "burned" CD inside, who knows...). I was completely wrong! When it started playing, I was so surprised by the sound quality, listening to some details long forgotten after so many years I first heard this title. Very good job, Joe! Review: thank you - thank you

missing the intro to Stormbringer on CD 2
I just got this and although it sounds good I am disappointed on CD2 the Intro to Stormbringer is missing and starts with the lyrics...and it says the song is 4:07 minutes long and others have said it is only 3:45 long...still I like the quad mix on CD2 has more bass and clarity....although the back of the case has a crack in it not sure if I did it or it happened while being shipped and in the cold weather......the CD's weren't damage so might see if I can change the jewel case....still the Remixed CD of Come Taste the Band is a lot better.

Good Music
Pleasantly surprised on how good this LP sounds. Early music from DP but rocks on.

One of the best Deep Purple albums!
There are few albums where I like all the songs. But I have to admit this one I love from side A through side B. The songs get better every time I listen. If you like Deep Purple or this type of music you have to buy this.

was ahead of it's time
love this cd. Kind of a cross between bad company and joe walsh. Mid 70's hard rock but bouncy, kind of funky. Was courious to hear this David Coverdale "funky" version of Deep Purple and was pleasently surprised despite complaints from Ritchie Blackmore during interveiws. Impressed with Glen Hugh's voice also. Holly man is a great song. Never made it big but seems to be the type of album that is better to look back on now then it was at the time it came out.

The best of the Deep Purple albums in my opinion
After reading a few of the one and two star reviews I really am confused. This is my favorite Deep Purple album of all even better than Machine Head which I give 5 stars as well. I guess it's just a matter of taste. This is very typical of coverdale's sound. Personally I like every song on the album.

Classic Coverdale Deep Purple
I first bought this album on vinyl in the early 1980's and promptly put it onto a C90 cassette (remember them?) I listened to this all summer on a personal cassette player after riding round North Wales on my trusty motorbike. There were no small players then so I could only recall the music after stopping and digging out the player. From the start this album delivers, while not in the traditional Deep Purple style this has a more Bluesy style to it, Coverdales vocals, whether you like them or not are unique. The first track and album title is a great rock and roll tune that sets the scene for the album. If you have listened to David Coverdales original alum Whitesnake you will find this familiar. Gypsy is a great tune that you will repeat time and time again, while Soldier of Fortune is a timeless classic, I challenge anyone to play this only once, its an absolute classic, it still sends chills down my spine, as did when a blind man cries, but that is another story.. This is a real move on from the Ian Gillan days but part of the story of Deep Purple. Definitely one to add to collection!

Unique album that will never be repeated
After Burn and before Come Taste the Band this album has such a different (funky) feel to it. Ritchie Blakemore seems to thrive in the music considering he left almost straight away - it seems so odd for someone to do so well and not enjoy it, mind you he is very talented. 2 great singers with a combined extreme range makes it worth a good listen and the rhythm section also kicks it along. I feel this hasn't dated at all - maybe it should be called DP BUT it does and I am sorry there wasn't anymore like "You can't do it right" or "Hold On" - Still we got this gem.
