12" CIGAR SCYTHE STONE 112

I bought this to sharpen an English pattern scythe. This stone seems perfect for the job, being coarse enough to leave the slightly rough burr on the scythe edge that cuts like a fine saw. It's very large which is helpful in keeping your hand away from the scythe edge (that I wouldn't fancy running even a gloved hand down!) Since others have asked about using the stone dry or wet I can say that for sharpening a scythe you certainly want to keep the stone wet.

A nice whetstone, easy to handle and which does the job. It wears quite quickly so not sure if it will last that long if used regularly, hence four stars.

AAA+++ great gods easy transaction good price and speedy delivery - I bought this to double up with my folding gardeners pocket knife - but I didn't check the dimensions - consequently when I opened the packet and saw just how big it is - around 12" - I simply laughed - it is probably designed to use with a scythe, grim reaper would love it LOL, I'm using it for hoes, spades, garden axe and other heavy-duty tools, however, it is a good stone - therefore recommended...

Good service from seller and decent priced honing stone. However, it seems assembled by 2 components stuck together and the joints are really poorly constructed, so they are pronounced. Last one I owned managed a wicked edge with fairly little effort but this made less impact on the blade. Still decent value for money but if I need another, I'd look for better and pay more. Does manage an edge but more time / effort needed than previous one I used. Also you cannot use entire edge and rotate stone, owing to the joint sticking up higher than the cylindrical edge.

I bought this stone on the advice of Tools for Self Reliance Cymru to sharpen an English grass sickle. It works wonders on that tool but has also put a useful edge on my spade, hoe and pruning knife. It is easy to use and seems resilient. It arrived promptly and with no fuss.

Great help for sharpening larger garden tools. Very easy and effective. Too big for secateurs

Will be used for sharpening all my garden tools, good size and seems to fit the bill.

Well I would certainly recommend this whetstone,bit larger than it looks on page,but does the job nicely.Well packaged in bubble wrap and arrived in 1piece.Just got it this AM. and so far I've sharpened my edging shears,hedge shears,3pairs of scissors,2kitchen knives,and a pair of lopers.When I have the lawnmower out next I'm going to have the blade sharpened too.It is a bit large for smaller stuff,but if you go carefully it makes a GRAND JOB.Pricewise real good for the size of it.Watch your fingers now!
