Does it use metal or plastic blades?

Only plastic blades so it is not dangerous to use it.

Yes it's quite noisy but a great machine so that makes up for the noise I even use mine while kiddies are in bed it doesn't disturb them

Is it possible to purchase a replacement jug?

Maybe yes, but I did not to replace mine until now.
