Franklin SPQ109 Collins Pocket Speller.
What a fantastic little gem! I have suffered from word blindness all my life. Even though l received good grades in English. I remember painstakingly ploughing through my pocket spelling book. A gift from my teacher many years ago. I use spellcheck online but not every site provides this. Or it will give you a misspelled option. Or American spelling. I can write a word and it looks correct then reading back what l have written much later, the mistakes jump out from the page. Like a magic book from Harry Potter. Tonge sticking out and thumb to nose , taunting me as if they have their own sadistic sence of satisfaction. My friends know me well but never the less. I still feel a sense of embarrassment. "No more!!"... I cry . I can type in a word into this little gadget. spelled the way l see it. The little machine gives me the correct spelling. It is in English diction as well. It's size is no larger than a mobile phone. So easy to fit into your pocket or bag. Very slimline. It looks like the picture portrays. Very lightweight. Easy to press, springy keys. l would say for money it is excellent value. I only wish that this had been around when l was at school. It is a good idea for children who struggle with spelling. No apps to search for, which will not correct misspelled words. Or having to use a mobile phone to find a word, which you have to input correctly in the first place. A bit like having Satalite navigation. Now that's another story. Well worth a purchase for the dislexic! Also for bad spellers.

confidence
I bought this for a dear friend in her 40's. She was deprived of schooling and although I got her reading she lacks the confidence to write even the simplest shopping list. I have always struggled with spelling, just one of those things, but a good education helped me to see that, in many cases of day to day writing, I either have it correct anyway or it really does not matter all that much. This little spell checker has given her the confidence to start using pen and paper as a regular thing in her life. I am delighted to see how it has helped her. Not that I have been able to check out all the other functions of the Speller as it was whisked away and goes with her at all times!! A wonderful little thing that fits in anywhere but seems to be worth it's weight in gold!!!

Pocket speller
Bought this product for my 14 year old daughter. It is small like a calculator and fits nicely into her pencil case. She is able to store words that she struggles with, quickly spell check unfamiliar words, and use is supported within her school. Would recommend to any parent wanting to build confidence in their children and spelling. Easy to use too.

Great Aid for School - KS2 and above
My KS2 child found this really easy to operate - the display is clear and the keys well labelled. It has sufficient vocab that it should last many years. The games may amuse and educate a younger child and the crossword function is useful, as it allows them to enter parts of a complicated word to narrow the word choice. Our local school is permitting its use for normal classwork. Still believe that we should teach children to use big dictionaries and encyclopedia. Recommended. You might want to consider more expensive model below for older children. Franklin DMQ 570 Pocket Collins Dictionary and Thesaurus

Franklin SPQ109 - Great Performer
Upgrade from Franklin CWR-108 needed. Fortunately received this, (Franklin SPQ-109), as a Christmas gift. This product is easy to use. Excellent anagram solver. When doing crosswords it's an excellent all round performer. Fast performer, nice keyboard, and a good clear display, so highly recommended.

Good spell checker, rubbish Xword Solver, mediocre anagram solver
Bought mainly for Xword solver and anagram solver. The Xword solver is total rubbish. It is merely an extended spell checker. It recognises a tiny number of phrases containing a space character. The old Seiko crossword solver was infinitely better. The anagram solver has one glaring error. It expects proper nouns to begin with capital letters. However the issue with anagrams is you don't know if it a proper noun, noun or verb - so you can't enter the correct capital letter. But here is the really, really, frustrating part. When entering an anagram, characters are displayed uppercase! An example. This unit does not recognise the anagram ideadeal. It is Adelaide. The crossword clue was seeking a Capital city. Summary - good spell checker. Frustrating Anagram solver. Useless Xword solver.

brilliant!!!
This Spellmaster was to replace an old one which had given up the ghost....I had been using different make of device that was slow and difficult to see the keys, Then when I invested in another Franklin Spellmaster, it was magic, its response is faster than the original one I had ( which was also really good) and the keys nice and clear. I love doing my crosswords and puzzle and spend more time doing this than watching TV and this little machine is the icing on the cake.. well worth every penny...

Nice!
I got this for one of my children (10) who was still spelling phonetically. It's very simple in use, small, light and works well. The kids complained about the (random) words it chose for the hangman game (which really were a bit obscure) and there were a couple of words it didn't manage to guess (from the misspelled version), like: aireal, aeriel, aerial and diarea, diaorhea, diarhea, diarheoa, diarrhoea , but then their correct spelling is a bit obnoxious. I dont hav it with me now, but I imajin it wud hav no trubbel with eny of this :-) So, all in all, excellent -- especially at the price.

I got this for my daughter who has trouble spelling. This device does a very good job of guessing the word that she enters for correction. It is not perfect every time, but it is right often enough that we can trust it. The speller has features in addition to spelling alone - a crossword solver, a calculator, and some kind of game, I think. Those aren't important for us, however. We just wanted a speller. Good price and is dependable. Takes button cell batteries. Nice compact size, roughly 3" x 4" x .5" thick. Weight is 2.6 ounces.

Mi dispiace ma io non L ho proprio capito come si usava..comunque mi sembra che non sia un traduttore perché non traduceva..

I had a really old one from the seventies and it quit working so I ordered this one as it was a very good price and looked a little like the one I had. It was a little smaller and at first I thought it was too small but with my close-up glasses I can see it very well and it works great. I love it. I am now used to the size and I like it better than the old one. It is easy to use, hold, and fits in my small purse easily. The games are great too. Be sure to keep the instruction paper that comes with it as it was very helpful for closing the demo.
