They come in 8 separe colours our nice chunky robust crayons great for young childs grasp. I brought pencils 2 ys ago for my now aged 4yr old twin boys still like new!

Speaking as a grand-parent and not as a teaching professional I would say 18 months to 3 years old. After that age the child should be able to master the knack of using standard width coloured pencils. Peter
