Israeli crime thriller directed by Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado. The film follows the fortunes of three men whose lives become intertwined by a number of grisly murders. Miki (Lior Ashkenazi) is a police detective but he goes well beyond the boundaries of his profession to investigate the crimes. Convinced that the murderer is Dror (Rotem Keinan), a schoolteacher with eccentric habits, Miki displays a willingness to use violence in search of the truth. However, with Gidi (Tzahi Grad), the father of one of the killer's victims, also out for revenge, events threaten to spiral out of control... Review: Watch this it's very good. - What a mental film I don't understand how I missed it when it came out. Watch this it's very good. Review: Small and good - As a black comedy, this didn't work for me. However, as a revenge thriller it's fantastic. Luckily the bad humour isn't too intrusive, but can you really put bizarre comedy in a film about taking revenge on a possible paedophile serial killer? Overall though it is a tense and involving little thriller.

much, much better than expected
Subtitled, which doesn't bother me as some films made in the USA would be better watched with subtitles. Very good film. Not a usual PC style USA ending.

Brilliant black comedy, would not disgrace the Cohen Brothers.
What a brilliant comedy; very much in the Cohen brothers genre of black comedy, very entertaining from start to finish. Well work the purchase

Good Film
I had seen a couple of adverts and decided to purchase the film almost instantly. The story is well written and well acted, slightly irritating that it's subtitled but still easy to follow. I feel like this film is the definition of a Thriller, definitely worth watching.

THIS BLU-RAY DISC HAS SUBTITLES. My Blu-ray disc entitled "Big Bad Wolves" arrived sooner than expected and is in good condition. Thank you Amazon (Au) for speedily sourcing and dispatching this Blu-ray disc to me and Australia Post for their speedy delivery of my package. On the surface "Big Bad Wolves" is concerned with vigilantism. But, at a deeper level it explores the power of belief. How when a belief becomes so entrenched, we so want to make them into reality. And, are prepared to use any means at our disposal - including torturous extortion - to accomplish this. It is a case of belief / perceptions driving our own version of reality. The plot is quite simplistic: apply sufficient pressure - torturous extortion- to a suspect until their "testimony" aligns with that of their tormentor's beliefs. There is nothing new or unique with the films plot: dozens of films have a similar basic premise. What is really startling - in this film - is the realistic character portrayals and shear (unexpected) brutality of the barbaric actions of the film's tormentor characters. This very uncomfortably shocking experience "welded" me on to this movie. At times, I desperately wanted to walk / look away but, my morbid fascination choked any will to draw back, for even a moment. I couldn't bear the thought of not knowing what was going to happen next, no matter how shockingly gruesome. I was compelled and addicted - helpless, but to watch every vile frame after another. Or, maybe watching these torturous acts gave me nauseating comfort: that I wasn't a participant and therefore, I was safe. The setting is minimalistic: contemporary buildings, streets and woods. There is nothing to distract from the film's sentiment, characterisations and character portrayals. The film's sets are well lit: no obscure scenes. The director "invites" the viewer to be an intimate observer - a fly on the wall - through the predominant use of near camera shots. It is this intimacy that starts to ensnare the viewer. Our humanity - emotions - form the basis of our connection to this film. This video upscale to 4K exceptionally well. The image is detailed, sharp, with natural colour reproduction and very little digital noise. Film grain is unobtrusive. A film that grabs you by the scruff of the neck, shakes you to the core and never let's you go. The stuff nightmares are made of. Sweet dreams.

There are few films that fall into the nearly prefect bracket; this is one. This was clearly the best film of Frightfest 2013 for me. Directors Aharon Keshales & Navot Papushado have gathered some of the cream Israels actors into tight tense story . When yet another young girl is raped & beheaded the police close in on their prime suspect. What unfolds is a story that explores the darker side of human nature yet is full black comic moments. The film is unique blend of genres rarely seen in any language, topped off with brilliant soundtrack. The Blu-ray looks wonderful despite being light on features.
