Can this be positioned on its side as it will be in my sump

I suppose it can, the powerhead plugs into the bottom uv section and this can be rotated 90 degrees.

Could this be mounted externally

I don't see how it could be positioned outside the tank as the pump and water intake nee to be in water.

How many hours a day do you folks run this in your tank. I have 240l planted community tank.

Dont think it helps to be honest ... i cleaned my tank out and put my lights on a timer no more that 5 hours a day...my algae problem and green water problem was solved job done

How do I get replacement UV Bulb for the UV steriliser

There area number of suppliers on the Internet. They are easy to replace once you have bought a new tube. I think Amazon show some supplier which can supply these.
