Tips for Windows XP installation
I have two of these - one in use with a Sony Vaio running Windows 7 and the other with a Samsung Netbook running Windows XP. The first one - in use with the Vaio - installed easily first time and performed exactly as expected; the second one - in use with the Samsung - was a lot more difficult to get working! My Samsung Netbook does not have an optical drive so I had hoped to get the dongle working with some Windows drivers and the custom software downloaded from the net - no chance! I am fairly computer-literate but after an hour or so of trying to get the wretched thing working I was about to send it back to Amazon as a failure. However - I persevered and eventually got it up and running so here are my tips for XP users. Firstly, don't bother with the Installation Wizard that pops up when the dongle is inserted - close it and forget it. Then forget the custom software download from the web - it just doesn't recognise its own dongle and Windows may try to block the download anyway. Don't hunt for Bluetooth drivers in Windows Update - there aren't any that work. The only way I could get this dongle working with XP was by installing the software from the provided CD - so if you are planning on installing it on a Netbook you will need to own or be able to borrow a USB optical drive. Then try this: insert the dongle into a USB socket and close the Installation Wizard when it pops up - ignore any error messages. Insert the CD into the optical drive and run it - follow the onscreen instructions until the software has loaded then reboot your computer. A final option box should then appear - choose your options and the Bluetooth should then be working OK - mine did!Once its working this is a good device so I will give it five stars for that, and running under Windows 7 is a doddle. It has also given my old Netbook a new lease of life - eventually! Good luck!

Great company! Good product!
What I like about Plugable is that this is first company, I have come accross, that has been proactive about helping with a product. Their email sent on dispatch of my order was very helpful. I like this concept - long may it continue! I already have ideas about what to purchase next from them.In regard of the product itself, I recommend downloading the latest drivers and telling Windows 7 not to bother searching the Internet, when you plug the dongle in, as this results in a number of irrelevant failed searches. The only remaining problem is that occasionally my headset (EP650) connects but the sound services are not re-established, whatever I do. The fix is to remove the headset device and re-detect it. I have yet to figure out why this occurs. However once done, sound reproduction and recording are way better than via the older Bluetooth devices I had.On Ubuntu (Trusty LTS) the advice to download the appropriate firmware needs to be followed to the letter. Only when the dongle is plugged in while the system reboots, does the required firmware get installed. Once this is done, the dongle works fine with my headset - sound reproduction and recording are fine. All in all - after correct setup - the dongle works as advertised. There are a few software glitches but they can be worked around. I hope Windows 10 does not mess things up!

This little gadget seemed like the ideal solution but I was apprehensive about buying ...
As my desktop PC is quite old now, it did not come with Bluetooth as standard. However, I do have an up-to-date android phone and tablet that are Bluetooth enabled as well as a laptop and wanted to be able to transfer files between them all without the hassle of having to plug them in.This little gadget seemed like the ideal solution but I was apprehensive about buying it due to not having a Windows OS (I hate Windows/Microsoft!) on my desktop PC.I have been using a variety of Linux-based OS distros for some years now, having given up on Microsoft/Windows and its predilection for crashing, and while this did say it was Linux compatible I am always wary about possible compatibility issues and having to hunt down and download additional software to make things work.Having taken the plunge and bought it, I need not have worried. It worked like a charm with my Debian OS: no downloading of additional drivers, etc., it just worked from the get-go: literally Plug 'n' Play!Unfortunately, my laptop came with Windows 8 pre-installed - which I made the mistake of upgrading to 8.1 - and it's supposed Bluetooth capability has vanished into the ether along with the upgrade! Yet another black mark against Microsoft/Windows in my book! So I may have to buy another one of these for my laptop if I cannot salvage it's Bluetooth capability under Windows 8.1.

Awesome !
Bought to replace a previous piece of junk that never seemed easy to use. This one was unpacked, and paired up within 30 seconds. I was having major problems trying to pair up some cheaper bluetooth earbuds that I bought to use with my mobile phone. After wasting several hours uninstalling and reinstalling, I decided to ditch it and buy a new dongle and this time I spent a bit more. After inserting this one into a usb port on my PC, Windows did "its thing", and told me that it had been installed (using win 10). I opened it up from my system tray (old one never seemed to appear in there), turned it on and told my PC to look for any "new devices". Removed my Enacfire E19's from their case, and the PC saw it within about 3 seconds. Clicked "pair" and BOOM !! All set up and working wonderfully. Exactly the same occurred with my mobile phone.Overall, it's early days, but I found the whole set up frustration free and in my opinion, that alone was worth paying the extra cost. Buy cheap, buy twice springs to mind ;)

Works out of the box for Raspberry Pi - great little adapter
What a great little adapter from a great manufacturer. Build quality is good, and the device is packaged with full-size CD of drivers and a small manual.I wanted this device to enable my little Raspberry Pi to stream music from my iPad to the hifi via the 3.5mm jack, and had no problem setting this up. Adapter is recognized out-of-the-box on Raspbian (2014-01-07-wheezy-raspbian ISO), so there's no need to worry about drivers. If, however, drivers are needed (I did when trying the device in my Win7Pro laptop), downloads are readily available from the manufacturer website (I didn't bother with the CD provided since the web is more likely to offer recent editions)Range is pretty good - in an old house with very thick walls I achieved about 10m before quality started to degrade, so ideal for my application. Having played a number of albums this was it's been great to get rid of the trailing cable from iPad to hifi - and the audio quality hasn't suffered from this Bluetooth implementation.

a real headache
what a nightmare. i thought it wasn't compatible with my marshall headphones because the range is ridiculous, so i went to their website where there was a self help discussion board. a thread mentioned about a windows 10 driver on their website. installed that and found whatever was put onto my pc clashed with my visualiser app and also stopped my headphone from being able to control the volume. their support was no help. contacted them via amazon which said they can't help and asked me to email their support, their support replied that the support for their support is in seattle (monty python would be proud) and will take some time to get back to me. do they need to fly over to seattle?? ended up fixing it myself by uninstalling all bluetooth drivers and reinstalling the original drivers found on intel's website. now i can at least use my apps and control the volume again. one more problem remains, plugable's "driver" installed a folder called "WIDCOMM" into my hard drive that's a whopping 235mb, what the hell?? i can't remove this folder because it's apparently linked to some system process, omg! and a review on the dongle, the range is beyond awful. i go behind the monitor 3 feet away and the headphones disconnects. i step out of the room with door open in full sight of the dongle and in headphone disconnects. i know it's nothing to do with my headphones because i've been using it for several years connected to my mac without any problems. no idea what kind of measuring tape plugable use but this thing will not give you a connection at 10 metres. at least it's semi working now and if you're short of cash like me i guess it's an ok buy, just stay away from their drivers.

Great dongle but not for usb 3.0 ports
DON'T use this in a ASMedia USB 3.0 port it will not work at all, when i first got mine i plugged it into a ASMedia 3.0 port, and it showed in device manager, But was saying unable to load device, so i tried to update the windows drivers for it in device manager and nothing...so went and downloaded the plugable technologies software and the first two times of trying to install that just ended in it saying unable to unpack driver packs, So i unplugged it and stuck it in another 3.0 port and tried to install the plugable technologies software again with it and it locked up windows and my computer (computer was unusable) i had to unplug it from the wall to get it to shut down, i also had to flash my Bios to my motherboard to get my computer to boot again, I should have known it was hardware related when it did that, but i was not thinking right by then i was kinda pissed off that it had done that to my computer and the thing was ready to go out the window at that point..NICE or what..a £4000+ workstation and i am having to unplug it when it's running, with a UPS attached to the setup, AND flash a crashed bios, NOT something i really want to be doing for a cheep Bluetooth dongle, BUT i gave it a second try and it crashed windows explorer first then crashed windows altogether, so i left it, and plugged it into a laptop with windows 7 64 bit on ( a USB 2.0 only laptop ) by the way, And it worked fine i didn't even need to use the plugable technologies software with it, But day a later i was still in need of a Bluetooth dongle for my workstation i was looking around to buy another dongle, one that definitely worked with win 8.1 pro and saw a lot of people saying they have had problems with Bluetooth 4.0 dongles and Asus motherboards and ASMedia USB 3.0 ports and controllers on them it's the bandwidth they interfere with one another it seems, So i bit my lip and tried it in a 2.0 port on my workstation and WooHoo, worked perfectly first time, and i mean perfectly it is a very good dongle when you get it up and running, it transfers flac files at around 74 75 mb per second from my phone in the kitchen to my office upstairs with no brakes or drop off at all, so yeah definitely recommend it, Just don't plug it in any usb 3.0 port that's all..

Davvero.
