'The one-volume encyclopedia of Italian home cookery.' – Wall Street Journal The Silver Spoon , the most influential and successful Italian cookbook of the last 50 years, is now available in a brand new revised edition. Originally published in 1950, it became an instant classic, selling over one million copies in eight editions. Considered essential in every household, it is still one of the most popular wedding presents today. The Silver Spoon was conceived and first published by Domus, the design and architectural magazine famously directed by Giò Ponti from the 1920s to the 70s. A select group of cooking experts was commissioned to collect hundreds of traditional Italian recipes and make them available for the first time to a wider modern audience. In the process, they updated ingredients, quantities and methods to suit contemporary tastes and customs, at the same time preserving the memory of ancient recipes for future generations. They furthermore included modern recipes from some of the most famous Italian chefs, resulting in a style of cooking that appeals to the gourmet chef and the amateur enthusiast alike. A comprehensive and lively book, its uniquely stylish and user-friendly format makes it accessible and a pleasure to read. The new edition features new introductory material covering culinary matters such as how to compose a traditional Italian meal, typical food traditions of the different regions, and how to set the table. It is also illustrated with twice as many newly commissioned photographs and contains a new section of menus by celebrated chefs cooking traditional Italian food. This is a monumental and unsurpassably prestigious cookbook that will share the bookshelves with classic titles such as The Joy of Cooking and Larousse Gastronomique . With over 2,000 recipes illustrated with specially commissioned art work and photography, the book is destined to become a fresh and definitive classic in the Italian cuisine booklist. Amazing!
Amazing, amazing, amazing! Anything you can think of is in this cookery book, think of what you would like to eat or have in the fridge/cupboard, find that section and it will provide you with a great and varied selection of recipes to choose from. The book is so large and so full of recipes I don't think we will ever run out of meal ideas! Ingredients and cooking instructions are simple and easy to follow, we love the fact there are recipes for single vegetables that will jazz them up a bit and make them more interesting rather than just plain boiled. I'm going to buy this again for other family members as it makes a great gift for any keen cook and at this price it is a steal! Very quick delivery too! Cannot recommend enough.

Wonderful big book
I wanted this book for ages and finally took the plunge. It is very well laid out and the index is either by recipe or ingredient which is useful. There is a big section on cooking terms in some cases is a translation of the Italian word. There are a lot of pictures of finished recipes which is always good. The recipe methods are very short, it is not a step by step instruction, for example on most pages there are 3 or 4 recipes. The introduction refers that this book would be accessible for the novice cook, and having looked through the non complex recipes I would agree with that. Endless vegetable, pasta, meat, everything receipes - which use very few ingredients - non of which are difficult to source and would be something you would be able to use again. Great book, good price and I am pleased that I have purchased it.

SHOULD BE GOLDEN SPOON
Can't really give a very exhaustive assessment of this cookbook, as I have only tried 2 or 3 recipes so far. Going by the results however, and what I am sure are innumerable excellent other recipes throughout this huge collection, I have little doubt that this is a 5 star job. OK - there are some page number errors in the index, and all is not necessarily 100% Italian in origin, plus not being a book for novices - but so what! This is a really splendid cookbook, beautifully bound with super pictures and ideas that really ought to get you into the kitchen tout suite. As far as I am concerned just one great recipe can justify for me the cost of a cookbook, so this one must be worth a fortune!

Not what we expected
Not just a translation of the original silver spoon in the original Italian, but it really significantly alters recipes that are time tested and authentic and as we try to use it, we find that it’s not much use to someone who just simply wanted to have the original Silver spoon translated into English

The GOAT for Italian Cooking.
This book is basically the Italian cookbook to have. The Silver Spoon is huge, thorough, and feels like it’s been pulled straight from Italian home kitchens rather than a trendy food blog. If you want to actually understand Italian cooking—not just make a few flashy dishes—this is the book. The recipes are straightforward and reliable, covering everything from simple pastas to classic regional dishes. No gimmicks, no overcomplicating things—just solid, traditional food that works. It’s the kind of cookbook you flip through for ideas, then end up using way more than you expect. If you love Italian food and want one reference you’ll keep for years, this one’s absolutely worth it.
