Sony NWE394R.CEW 8 GB Walkman MP3 Player with FM Radio - Red

In the past, my sister and I bought cheaper MP3 players(we're on a budget) but they proved to be not very user friendly - with instructions that you'd feel like sending to a Bletchley Park codebreaker (they were that complex) to decipher, amongst other problems - such as obsolete software. My sister really wanted one and she was treated to a Sony MP3 Walkman for her birthday because she wanted something that was simple to operate (she's a technophobe), simple to understand with quality sound and good battery life i.e. a long time between charge and running out of juice etc. Happily, my sister hasn't looked back since buying hers and told me I should consider buying a Sony MP3 for myself. I have had Sony products for years which are still going strong … but, because of my past experiences of MP3 players, I was in two minds: would this later version of my sister's Sony be as user friendly? Eventually, I took the plunge and bought mine (which I'm reviewing now). Happily, I feel the same way as my sister did. It has great battery charge life, great sound (as you would expect from Sony) and is light and handy. The fact that this current model has the volume controls on the side and the HOLD button to stop accidental skipping of tracks by accident directly underneath it - which is far better than holding down buttons to do the same function! I've downloaded the free Sony Music Centre app from the internet which I've used to add and delete albums and tracks to and from the MP3 player. I'm still finding my way round this piece of kit and enjoying every minute.

Brilliant MP3 player. Bought this to replace the identical Sony Walkman that I ruined when I went swimming unbeknown to me that it was in my swimming shorts. (So not waterproof) Had a few of the 3 series Walkmans over the decades and cannot fault them. Very easy to download MP3s onto this model with downloadable Sony software and sound quality is very good. Storage capacity is huge on this model Brilliant product, but only to be expected from a leading brand like Sony

Quality sound, not too loud so need to be in area where there is no traffic or transport noise. Handy size and quick to charged. Annoying how it turns on at the slightest touch (eg something leaning against it in a bag or accidentally touching the front screen, leading to a drained battery if not noticed. Would not buy this again.

Its not bad but my old Sony MP3 player is better, has more functions and is not made from cheap plastic material like this one, which I paid the same price as this one, its pretty average. Sound quality is good, lacks a lot of functions so its much more simple and it is easy to use. I have to say its not the best Sony MP3 player specially at that price.

Its surprisingly hard to find a good quality stand alone mp3 player nowadays.. this little Sony fits the bill perfectly. Yes its a bit more expensive than some of the other mp3 players on Amazon but having experienced two of the cheaper ones over the last few years I can say that the extra cash is money well spent: it is very easy to use with intuitive menus and superb sound quality . So easy to add music to ( just click and drop from your pc) . All in all could not be more pleased with this Sony mp3 player.

I had one with Bluetooth and much more features, metallic, bought in Japan more than 20 years ago of excellent quality with excellent battery quality, nice and smooth design, nice characters and menu presentation, easy and soft manipulation ...I got it stolen...and I replace it by a piece of plastic which is not worth the price, crappy display, crappy buttons, day and night compare to my original one ....shame on you Sony you deserve not even a star!

Really disappointed with this Sony. Compared to previous purchases it seems Sony are cutting corners and making savings throughout. The real panel is pure plastic not metal like the front. The mickey mouse buttons layout is amateur and lacks tactile ease of ones before. Why make a new smaller power inlet? Previous ones were fine with one cable. Now another new type of cable part of cost cutting. The screen is poor colour resolution and quality and really only applies to icons. Compared to previous versions the menus are smaller, features missing like normalization. Every time I switch it on it resets to a fixed low volume. Overall it is too quiet especially with classical music. I cannot select what I want to see on the screen. The number of tracks only now appears when I move fwd or back a track instead of constantly being on screen. There are line completely unnecessary like the folder name. Why? And no track names - meta data which I do not want to see. The HOLD button has the screen come on if I do touch a button rather than another menu so say hold in use. So I get the impression the internal chips are smaller in memory ie cheaper. The screen itself is smaller than previous models, more cost cutting. How about a firmware update? No chance.....In conclusion - Extremely disappointing Sony and I will not be buying any more of these as competitive options are similar in features and build quality now. And a lot cheaper too.

Easy to use , clear sound . Decent from sony

Sony toujours fidèle à sa réputation. Il coûte effectivement plus cher que les autres lecteurs de marques inconnues, mais pour en avoir renvoyé un à 20€ car plein d'anomalies, je vous conseille ce baladeur qui vaut son prix. Intuitif, navigation ultra simple, grande autonomie, le shuffle est efficace (il fait vraiment le tour de toutes vos chansons). Le seul hic: les touches sont très sensibles, la touche hold doit donc être mise quasi systématiquement. Et parfois, la lecture passe en "album" pour une raison inconnue alors que vous étiez en "tout lire".

Der Player wird vorrangig zum abspielen von Hörbüchern als Einschlafhilfe verwendet. Die Tasten des Player funktionieren sicher ohne aufdringlich zu werden. Die Lautstärke lässt sich über die seitlichen Knöpfe direkt verändern. Wird das abspielen eines Titels von der Sleep-Funktion unterbrochen, kann man das Hörbuch nahtlos an dieser Stelle fortsetzen. Leider lässt sich der Speicher des Geräts nicht durch eine SD-Karte aufstocken. Über die Ordner-Funktion werden alle MP3 des ausgewählten Ordners abgespielt. Alternativ lassen sich auch alle Tracks eines Album abspielen. Dabei sollte jedoch beachtet werden, dass die Tracks über die verschiedenen CDs fortlaufend nummeriert werden. Als Track-Nummer des ersten Tracks der zweiten CD sollte 7 verwendet werden, wenn die erste CD schon 6 Tracks hat. Im Vergleich zum NWZ-E585 hält der Akku nicht ganz so lange und das Gehäuse ist aus Plastik statt aus Metall. Dennoch hält der Akku mehrere Nächte und das Gehäuse fühlt sich gut an. Leider ist er mit ca. 80€ nicht günstig, aber alle andere mir bekannten Modelle patzen bei verschiedenen Themen, z. B.: - eine umständliche Lautstärkenregelung - Tasten die ihre Betätigung durch ein lautes klicken bestätigen - eine Sleep-Funktion die piept bevor sie aktiv wird - Ein von der Sleep-Funktion unterbrochener Track kann nicht einfach an dieser fortgesetzt werden. Es muss erst gespult werden.

Il prodotto è di ottima soddisfazione e non ha difetti che ho riscontrato in prodotti MP3 anche più potenti ma di difficile utilizzo passeggiando e correndo in giro. Chiederei solo di non lasciare il prodotto nel passaggio macchine ma a lato! Grazie
