Group pencil pots.
I bought these in 4 different colours to use as pencil pots for each group in my class. Worked really well and the coordinated well with boxes I bought to hold word mats, spelling books etc. I haven't had an issue of them falling over when holding rulers - just encourage the children to distribute the weight evenly within the 4 compartments!
